I didn't mean to upset you, not in the slightest. I would like a chance to explain what I read.
It was the use of your word "had" - i.e. "rounding a corner
(implies I couldn't see around it) ... traffic
had (implies 'I discovered') come to a complete stop" Coupled with "I40 was being repaved"
(implies again traffic was already slowed)
Simply sounds like you popped around a blind curve to find traffic at a stand still.
I'm totally stoked you didn't ram anyone, and I commend your chassis for stopping, but my comment about the WAZE app or Google Maps is simply true.
If road construction was taking place, and traffic was slowing out of sight, you would have been alert to the fact in advance, saving you from having to clean your shorts.
Even my Rand Mcnally 7730 stands a 99% change to have alerted to "road construction ahead" 10 miles back.
