Engine Cover Motor malfunction

As has been described here (perhaps many times) one of my two engine cover motors quit working. The symptoms seemed odd to me, kind of like low battery power, it was going up, but weakly. Called Entegra Support, told them I was leaving Friday on a 3 month trip and they got me 2 motors coming in time.

I didn't figure out until the end of the process below that it appears to be mostly in one motor.

Fortunately I installed the clevis pin per this forum. Thanks to those who posted the various fix options.

Actually removing the clevis pin was a bit tricky. The door was partly open (about 2 inches on 1 side, 1 inch on the other side) but removing the cotter pin was relatively easy. Then using a screw driver I attempted to push the bolt out. I had to close the door and then adjust it a little bit to remove the pressure. The final 1/2 inch (when you can't push on the end because it was inside the motor) was tricky but I taped a smaller bolt sideways on the end of a screwdriver (using duct tape) and stuck that in the hole and pushed the pins out.

Are there any posts in here talking about the actual motor replacement, wondering if there are any good hints??

Thanks

Motor replacement is easy. Just make sure to get the washers back on the bolt in the correct position, but since you did the mod to add the clevis pins this should be a snap.

Carry a 3/16"pin punch. You can use it to drive the 1/4" roll pin out to remove the motor. You'll need to hammer it in on an angle so use a 3/16" punch rather than a 1/4" punch, which would bind. If you can disconnect the dead motor, the other will lift the cover. But if the dead motor is still pinned in place it won't allow the other motor to lift the gate.

new guy looking at a spec sheet for 2018 anthem and it states:
Manual override for engine cover door.

I assume this makes the OP issues mute on 18 coaches,.

Yes had to replace my motors too. As others said not a hard job once the door is open and if you disconnect the bad motor the single motor can still open close it. Also FYI the hatch will stay open on its own with just the gas struts if it is pushed up as far as it can go.

In my case one motor apparently seized and bent the heck out of the bracket and gas strut on that side. It had been intermittent for months. MorRyde was quick to send a new bracket, new strut and TWO new motors - they said they had to be replaced in pairs, but perhaps that was due to the vintage of my motors. The new motors were a different brand. Upon request hey also sent four quick disconnect clips.

The old motor looked pretty rough and our coach isn't even a year old (from delivery) yet. I suspect the presumed weather boot on the old motor may have contributed to its demise. The new motors do not have boots.

The "manual override" is simply Entegra having installed the removable clevis pins for you in case of motor failure.

Got my new motors and just installed them. Very easy as they have clips rather than bolts at both ends. I did have to remove a section of the power cord, there was an extension in the line, so that the plug fit (male/female). Very easy, just remove the short segment.

Pictures attached showing the pins. My guess is that this is what is going in the 2018s.
