We stayed under 60 mph ALWAYS, and ended up 9.8 mpg total with almost 15000 miles... computer calculation, and by hand.

Regards

His signature says Aspire,. The reports from Aspire owners show higher MPG. Could be the lesser weight of the Aspire but it is hard to figure why such a big difference.

MPG on Travel Supreme Mid Engine

I get a confirmed 9 to 10 mpg with a 42 footer,400hp, pulling a Liberty. I became very weight conscious since the first time I drove it over the scales. I now never fill the 200 gallon tank over 3/4 full (not likely I would ever want to drive almost 2000 miles without stopping). Water tank only a quarter full, and the black and grey mostly empty. I pulled out all unnessary weight out of the basement. These things have monster storage. I actually used to travel with 2 spares, now I am down to one. I set the cruise to 63 and enjoy the ride. I also have the software that turns my laptop into a reader of all the engines computer systems. Plugged into the OBD ll, it's a complete electronic dashboard with instant fuel mileage, turbo boost and pressure and all sorts of other cool stuff. That thing has saved me thousands in diagnostics, but that's another story. I guess the moral of my story is, travel light, and go with the truckers speed, and you'll see that MPG rise.

What is the software that you use to monitor your engine?

It is the SilverLeaf System.
www.silverleafelectronics.com/
You download the software to your laptop, it's free. You pay for the connector, wiring and little black box that you plug into the OBD ll plug under the dash. Fire up the software and you will be amazed at what you have access to. Case in point, My in dash engine alarms went off in the middle of a long trip last year, but all that says is "shut down Engine", accompanied by a blaring alarm. I plugged in my laptop and the SilverLeaf told me I had a low coolant alarm. Went to the coolant tank and it was full. Took 2 minutes to diagnose that the coolant sensor was bad. This information allowed me to continue to our next stop for the day. Had the factory overnight a new sensor, 5 minutes to put it in, and done. Now imagine the cost and time involved to park the coach, get a technician to come out and diagnose the problem, order the part, and come out again. Anyone that has had to deal with situations like this in the middle of a trip knows what I mean. It ruins the trip, and at this point in time, you are calling your coach a boat (Bust Out Another Thousand).
With the SilverLeaf on your computer, you get to actually design the dashboard to show things you want to know. You can show your instantaneous mpg, trip mpg, lifetime mpg. I use instantaneous mpg to see what my right foot is doing. The trip mpg tells me how successful I was for a particular segment of my trip. I don’t care much about lifetime mpg (which is what you are looking at from your in-dash information center), because that includes all the times the engine is run when you are not moving. Other things you will see are total engine hours, real coolant temp (not just a suspect needle on an analogue gauge), oil temp and pressure, trans temp, and more. It tells you real RPM, speed, and the speed your cruise control is set at. It’s also easily transferable. I used it on my previous coach, and when I got my Travel Supreme, I just created another profile.

I am planning to install it on my Anthem. Using a cheap Windows tablet PC and Silverleaf's Bluetooth wireless module, I will have no wires to the tablet except 12v power. The screen is highly configurable. All the instruments and indicators can be placed wherever you wish, and sized however you wish. It is extremely flexible but also challenging to configure everything.

Rampside, can you post a photo of your screen or even better yet, send your configuration files?

Something that is not often mentioned ids that the "gauges" that are supplied by silverleaf you can look at the data stream to see if your system is carrying other information (this depends on wether or not the chassis integrator has sensors integrated). I'd it does you can monitor this other parameters as well.

While MPG discussions have been beat to death, this discussion has not.

This has been a very interesting read and should give lots of food for thought to future buyers.

The MPG when we went to pick up our Anthem showed 6.7 MPG in 1300 delivery millage from the factory. That delivery driver must have drove it like he stole it I hope that it improves when I drive it.

Another advantage of the SilverLeaf system is the ability to capture malfunction codes, explain exactly what components are involved and go back to all the readings when it occurred so you can diagnose the problem and possibly devise a bandaid fix to get back to the hangar.

I must be doing something wrong, that's about the best I got with the Aspire towing a Chrysler 300 remainging within speed limits. With our Anthem being three feet longer I was going to be happy for the same.
