My Hydro Hot nozzle is spec'd at 0.35 gph. Would assume that would be a good number for "accounting" purposes.

The problem I have estimating fuel use by my Hydro is that all these specifications talk about gallons per hour, but the burner operates for a couple minutes then is off for 5 or 10 min. And it varies quite a bit....depending on whether it's heating air and it's freezing outside, or water for a shower or load of laundry.

I did some research and located the perfect solution for this problem. In essence, you need to add an hour meter that records only the time that the aqua hot fuel valve is open. Here's how to do it:

This will be one of the first modifications I'll do to my coach when I get it.

Read that article carefully....that meter does NOT record time the valve is open.

Bottom line here is each of us uses this device in differing ways and under differing conditions, so it's impossible to get a real accurate determination on fuel consumption. Same as establishing an accurate MPG.

Please elaborate on why it doesn't record time when the valve is open. It specifically says it does.

Bob, I agree, it is almost impossible to determine. Aqua Hot told me to figure an average in the winter, raising inside temps an average 30 degrees would figure about .15 gph, in my experience, that is fairly close. COURSE, close only counts in hand guns and hand grenades. just saying......

Sure I can elaborate. Motor run time does NOT equal the time solenoid is open. It's greater!

I hope no one takes this wrong, but I don't understand all the concerned about burning a few pints of diesel fuel or am I missing something? Is it really all that important to the enjoyment and operation of your $300,000 - $400,000 coach that you have to keep records that are so precise and fear that operating your Hydro-Hot might leave you out of fuel and broken down on the side of some deserted road somewhere?

Aquahot does not run much when you are driving. The engine heats the water instead of the aquahot while your driving. The only time it would ignite is if the demand was more than the engine could keep up with. As a result the fuel consumption from the aquahot is pretty small.

Ron, I don't think the usage either way will discourage any of us from ownership. For some of us, it's just that we keep records of things because....well, just because. Maybe it's our backgrounds. At least a few of us are bean counters in some regard or another so it does come natural to keep detailed records that don't really mean anything other than satisfying our inner need to keep records. For some of us anal types it's just fun to know for no particular reason.

That's the whole point of the document. If you reread it, the hr meter is hooked up to the fuel valve so it only keeps track of time when fuel is flowing. Page 2 at top of page.

Ed, thanks for putting it in the way you did. I better understand where the posts were heading now. I have to admit on some issues I certainly go to extremes myself, even to the point my better half tells me I get compulsive obsessive at timess. Of course I can't believe that...

I love this series of posts. Informative...and if you're an engineer or accountant...how could you not keep track...its in the blood

I just hope I get somewhere in the vicinity of 8-8.5 when I head to Alaska in 2014. Need that extra 0.5/mi for those kinds of distances.
