Cool Erratic Fuel Gauge

Today, my fuel gage went from 3/4 to 1/4 [right before my eyes] in 5 seconds...

I suspect the sending unit is faulty...

Here's my question: If the gage goes to empty, is there anything in the engine software that will shutdown the engine ?? I can calculate when to get fuel, until I get it repaired, but just wanted to be sure I'm not gonna get stuck somewhere for this issue.

Thanks!

I experienced the same issue and it did not shut me down.
In about 2016 if the gauge went to empty you would get an alarm
and check engine light.
Not sure if that was true for 2012 models but anyway it wouldn't shut you down.

Thanks Gasman...that answers my question. I can deal with a "sometimes" crazy gage for a while, as long as it doesn't shut me down...

While I can't comment to the problem of the gauge acting up, I wonder then, if you have a generator or an aqua hot, if the false reading will keep you from starting either of those.

Just curious.

I as far I know there is no interface between the fuel gauge and Aqua Hot or Generator. The draw point in the fuel tank determines if there is fuel available to run.
After all the fuel gauge is not active until the ignition is on or engine running.
