Entegras have ENGINE BRAKES...when the engine brake engages at highway speeds, the idiot panel will read "auxiliary braking" at first, next you will fell the engine starting to rev, and then if needed, the shifter will move to "24" and you will really feel the engine revs increase and the hear the revs increase.

It is more noticeable with the ISX, to me. But on my previous Anthem, the engine and transmission followed the same process.

It performs somewhat different when the cruise control is engaged. I believe the number is 8 mph above the cruise setting before the engine brake starts to engage. When hitting an extended downhill run, I always disengage the cruise and let the engine brake do its job, which,IMHO, it seems to engage more heavily (slight at first and then 24).

With normal use service brakes will last well over 100,000 miles according to Spartan.
I agree 100% but in the absence of advice from a more reputable source it seemed reasonable at the time. #newbie

Thank you both.

Because the OP asked about the "exhaust brake" on his 43' Newmar Tag on a Spartan in his original post, I assumed that his 43' Newmar Tag on a Spartan HAD an exhaust brake".

Silly me.

Mel,

I did also until I got to post 5 where it was determined that the OP misstated what type of brake his engine actually has.

That's why people should read all of the posts and not just the first one.

I did "read all of the posts"... but because the OP had asked about his "exhaust brake" in post #1.... I assumed that the OP knew what he was talking about.
When wmpbauer, in post #5, said "You don't have an exhaust brake on a Spartan Chassis", I had no way of knowing whether he or the OP are correct.
That's why I asked, (in post #28 on this "Entegra exhaust brake thread")... "Has it been determined whether the OP has an exhaust brake... or an engine brake?".

In fact because I have never seen umsman's coach I'm still not positive it has an compression release engine brake, (aka: Jake Brake).

However I'll take wmpbauer's word for it.... unless/until the OP, (who should know his coach better than wmpbauer), says otherwise.
