Fixed low water pressure at kitchen sink faucet

While fine tuning the new 4048 water pump to stop pulsating, I got all faucets working great expect the kitchen sink, it continued to pulsate the pump.

Back to the Shurflow owners manual and found that flow restrictors on a faucet would cause this problem. Unscrewed the spray head, turned the faucet on, no pulsating and good pressure coming out of the faucet hose. I found not one but two flow restrictors in the spray head, removed both of those using a pick and the problem was solved. The pump stopped pulsating and have good flow at the faucet.

It dawned on me that these are residential faucets designed for 70+ psi of water pressure. Our water pressure is restricted with our pressure regulators to 55 psi, not enough pressure to open the flaps in the restrictor valves. It was an easy fix, about a minute using one of these. https://www.harborfreight.com/4-piec...set-66836.html

Mike, if these faucets are anything like I just put in the S&B there are probably flow restrictor in the hot and cold inlets as well.

Don't you just love all the new govt regulations....not. Kind of like the side lights on the newer models. Make them safe for Walmart parking, but take the safety factor way for lane changing.

You solved our problem also Chuck..! The kitchen faucet is the only one that is making the pump pulse. Thank you..!

Exactly! We need more regulations! When you say hot and cold inlets, do you mean where they connect to the faucet underneath the sink?

Yes, or they could be in the cartridge where the water feeds come in .

When I called Delta on my news S&B faucets I was told by Federal law they could not tell me the locations of the restrictors. Say What!? I paid for them, but the manufacture has more rights than I do. Thankfully they don't own the internet, found the location on a plumbing website.

Kind of like the light police catching me for my 5 non reflective, very safe, turn signals add to the sides of my MH.

Personally I think the faucet, as it was is a health risk, you can't wash a dish clean enough to pass inspection.

Fixed low water pressure at kitchen sink faucet

Are there any other restrictors between the pump and the sinks? We have a '16 DEQ with both kitchen and lav sinks on slides. All have low pressure, whether or not the heads/nozzle are on at the time. The shower and toilet are just fine, as is the refer. TIA

Not knowing the age of your coach, but it might be time to also unscrew and clean the faucets screens. After removing a screen see if the pressure is still low. Some bath faucets you can remove the water line and reach the flow restrictors with a hooked pick sold at Harbor Freight. It also what I used to remove the kitchen flow restrictors. https://www.harborfreight.com/mini-p...set-63697.html

What pump comes standard with the 2019 coaches? Why did you choose to upgrade? More flow, better pressure. etc...?

Thanks

Ted

The 19 has the upgraded 4048 and works well
The Classic had the 4008 which had a lower flow for a large coach.

Thanks Chuck, that is what I thought. Thanks for the flow restriction info.

Chuck, I recently did the same thing to the Moen handheld showerhead I installed shortly after we got the coach, replacing the factory installed handheld showerhead which didn’t angle down enough and had spray patterns we didn’t care for.

We liked the Moen showerhead from the get-go, but its flow was rather anemic – about one gallon per minute (GPM) or so. I figured it had to be a flow restrictor, so a few days ago I set about to remove it. Extracted the flow restrictor and saw another one deeper in the handle. Removed that one and saw yet a THIRD flow restrictor below the second one!! Removed that one and finally had free flow to the head.

I ran two tests, one while connected to an external water supply with really high pressure (regulated to 75-80 PSI via a household style regulator), and one while drawing water from the onboard fresh water tank via the Aquajet ES pump I installed a couple of months ago – New Aquajet Water Pump / Shurflo on Semi-Hot Standby.

The first test (high-pressure external water supply) resulted in 2.5 GPM. The second one (Aquajet ES water pump) resulted in 2.0 GPM. Much better in both cases.

Yes, having this much flow in the shower causes the grey tank to fill quicker. Not a problem when parked with full hookups, but a definite consideration when dry camping, which we do rather frequently. Fortunately the water valve in our shower has separate handles for on/off and water temperature. With a little experimentation, we found we can limit the flow to about what it was before by rotating the on/off handle only part way on.

By the way, we too had pulsating issues with the factory-installed Shurflo pump, but have had none whatsoever with the Aquajet ES pump.
