Fresh Water Tank Bay Modification

I removed the panel that covers the fresh water tank bay. See picture. I want to add a storage shelf over the fresh water tank.

I found several loose wires with a connector on the end. Picture.

Any idea what this is? Maybe just extra or maybe not hooked up.

BTW are there any suggestions for my modification. I think I read where Pat Bauer had done this modification but could not find it in the modification thread.

We have three unused wires up in ours, but Entegra said they are not used on our 2015 Anthem.

Haha I have built a shelf and found that same wire on the left and it was hot laying in the bottom. Will send pic later made the shelf out of some pipe I had and at the end I just put some closet rod holders with a piece of plywood on top , easy to take out. Asked Entegra about the wire they said it was for a light but that wire is to big for light I was thinking a tank heater or something.

On the earlier model Aspires, that bay door did not open sideways. It was hinged from the top. Our fresh water tank was shorter and went across all the way to the wet bay. I redid my door to open like the rest of the doors, then put a sliding tray over the tank.

If you look under your dash, you will find unused wires like that in abundance. Since they are not marked, you have no way of knowing if they are supposed to be unused or they came apart from somewhere. Bad practice. You would think a quality coach manufacturer could do better than that.

As long as you are there working you may want to consider adding a gravity water fill. Mine has come in handy several times.

A simple fix for a shelf would be a piece of plywood cut to the length and width you want, and then cut 2 additional pieces the same width as the shelf x approx. 2" and glue / screw to the bottom of the shelf as legs.
Your new shelf will sit on top of the fresh water tank (2" above ) and would be removable if necessary.

Wire looms are often made to include all potential options offered on a particular model. it would be cost prohibitive to order custom looms. The extra wires are just left in the loom during construction. In my RV, all the wires were printed with there function on the wire insulation.

Sometimes a DIY can take advantage of the wires already run and use them for their own customizing.

I had a wiring connector with a pair of wires that wasn't being used in the same area. It turned out to be part of the basement cargo lights circuit, even though there was no light in that compartment. My tank was exposed on the 2016 so I added an enclosure and a shelf to store my DEF jugs on. I then added a string of LED lights and hooked them up to that connector and now that compartment is illuminated as well. The connector had blue and white wires if I recall. Test it with a meter or test light and try the basement light switches to confirm.

I assumed they were talking about behind the existing panel but also wondering. I have a shelf and keep DEF, tow stuff and triangles there.

Did yours come with the shelf? That is what I expected but mine came with a black panel covering the entire bay and no shelf. It does have a gravity fill. The picture is with the panel removed.

Why would Entegra make some with the shelf and some without? Save a few $$?

Like so many features it's most likely floor plan specific.
