Fuel tank capacity - Aspire
According to literature, my 2015 Aspire has a 100 gallon fuel tank. I have to adjust to that after my 150 gallon Monaco.
However, yesterday I got to where I had trouble finding a suitable diesel dealer (try finding one in the middle of New Mexico!) and when I finally did my tank gauge was near E and the low fuel warning was on.
The fill up took 73 gallons, implying that there were still over 27 gallons in the tank, or over 1/4. So is this a gauge issue, or does the tank have less usable capacity than the literature states?

Every DP I've ever had (3 now) has been that way. At 1/4 I can usually only put 100 gallons or so into the 150 gallon tank.

I also have the 100 Gallon tank, and when I fill up just as the light comes on, I have 25 gallons left. Seems normal. Once i figured it out, I know I can go another 100+ miles if needed, but I try to fill up just before the light comes on.
I'm sure there's a method to the madness.
Cheers!

Could it be the aquahot cutoff at 1/4 tank is why they calibrated it that way?

Consider the light as just an "early warning" feature. I've driven 50+ miles after the gage was ON the "E" and still could not buy 85 gallons. I think the fuel's foaming characteristic is likely causing the nozzel to shut off before the tank is completely full, too.

Actually, my miles to empty display showed 180 miles left. Since I get about 8 MPG that would work out to around 25 gallons left, so I guess I won’t get nervous next time the gauge says E.

I have often wondered the same thing, but then I wonder how much is usable. I am too chicken to find out, I don't want to start bleeding injectors to get the air out when I run out of fuel. Just glad I take less fuel when the light comes on.

I would assume the new Cumming has the Piezoelectric injectors that run in excess of 30,000 psi so bleeding them with a wrench would be bad for your blood stream. In any event bleeding injectors on a diesel is a pita under the best of conditions.
When it gets to 1/2 tank I'm looking for a station unless I know exactly where the next station is.

On my school buses and other equipment I have fueled it states that you can only fill to a certain capacity of the tank.....there are regs to that effect I think.....85% comes to mind I think........tanks are vented on top and expansion.......you need a bit of dead air on there.

Fuel foaming takes a long time to settle so almost impossible fill to capacity unless using a slow pump

Remember when I bought a new Grand Cherokee back in '96. First car I owned with a 'miles to empty' readout. Thought I would 'test' the accuracy.
Came up a mile short.
Looked pretty dumb filling my gas tank with the car on top of a flatbed tow hauler.
Hope I never 'test' the coach.....

You can almost bet that a 100 gal tank has somewhere between 5 and 8 gallons unusable due to pickup height and slope of the tank. Like Clint said "do you feel lucky".
