Fumoto Drain valve will not work on an 12.5 Onan

I received the Fumoto Drain Valve and it will not clear the skid plate opening for the drain plug. The 22mm Fumoto valve is huge, twice the size of the Cummins engine drain valve. The valve body of the Fumoto is too large to clear the opening. If the adapter is used to clear the skid plate the valve will hang down to low to be safe.

It was a good idea as I do like their products...I did keep the Cummins valve but did return the Onan valve and adapter.

It looks like I will go with plan "B" and the Femco valve that Tom recommended. Femco: Eliminate Messy Oil Changes - No-Spillâ„¢ Systems

Maybe placing a male/female 90 degree brass elbow of the Fumoto Drain Valve and then screw the elbow into the bottom of the pan will solve the problem.

DD, The Fumoto valve is just to big for the skid plate opening. Even using a 90 the valve is so large it would hang down lower than I feel comfortable with. I could not believe how large a 22mm valve is. Why Kubota has such a large drain plug on a small engine is beyound me. If they would have used a bolt size that Cummins uses on the big engines everything would have fit fine.

Can you enlarge the hole in the skid plate without damaging the oil pan? If not, would a reducer and smaller Fumoto valve hang too low?

Hi Lou, I did order a thread extender and it would drop the Fumoto to low to be safe. There is no way to safley grind out the skid plate hole. One slip and there goes a hole on the drain pan. Not worth it to me, I will order a Femco Valve today and play it safe. I like the Fumoto much better as there is no drain hose adapter to get lost.

Chuck, thanks for all the effort you have put into identifying the correct part for this project. It looks to me like the Femco valve is the best one to use for the generator.

Bill, thank you for all of your assistance in getting the correct thread size and engine ID. At least we tried. I did order the Femco valve and drainer today. I would have liked it much better of the Fumoto would have fit. I'll post pictures of the completed project for those that are interested.

I saw this product with 2 models specifically for Onan gensets. Not sure if it solves the problems noted in this thread. I did not order one yet.

That is the same valve setup as the Fumoto Valve. 22mm is HUGE. If you look at the first photo. the valve body will not clear the cut out for the skid plate covering the drain pan on the Onan. Believe me I tried. Just because it is listed for an Onan doesn't mean it will fit all applications. On the Entegra, that is the skid plate.

After looking at the web site, both sizes they list for an Onan are incorrect for the 12500 KW. The 12500 takes a 22 mm thread size.

Here is what Bill in FL and I went through trying to find the correct thread size.
Thanks to Bill we were able to trace it down. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/has-...kw-210635.html

Hope this helps so the incorrect one is not ordered.

Fumoto vs EZ Drain Valve

The Fumoto Drain Valve and EZ Oil Drain Valve have no affiliation with each other, look near identical, but have minor differences.
Both have Life Time Warrantees. Fumoto has been in business for over 25 years. The Fumoto valve has a stainless steel ball.
The EZ Drain valve ball is chrome plated. The EZ Drain valve is "Patient Pending".

Thanks. I stand corrected! I guess I'll live without a drain valve.

There is one that will fit, just not the Fumoto type. I have one of these on order. It will fit inside of the skid plate hole. Femco: Eliminate Messy Oil Changes - No-Spillâ„¢ Systems

Why not tie-wrap the drain tube inside the generator housing after each use. It would take a few tie-wraps, but you would never have to worry about where it went.
