Garage Shore Power

we are doing the electrical specs for our new garage for our 2013 Aspire 42rbq. Wondering if keeping the 50 amp plug into 50 amp power between trips (about 3 to 4 weeks apart) is ok, or should I reduce to 20 amps? Is there any harm is keeping the 50 amp plugged in all the time.? Thanks for the advice and info.

Paul , we keep our 50 amp cord plugged into garage all the time when at home base.

It will only use the amount of power of the appliances ,etc. that are actually on in the RV.

Nothing on - then minimal draw(battery charging)but if you want to run anything else then you're all set.

Been plugged into 50 amps for 2.3 years now except for road trips and no problem at all.

Absolutely no harm. Having 50 amps will let you run everything at once if you are trying to exercise your equipment during storage.

You re only talking about a little more money in wire cost and breakers.

Paul, have you built the garage yet? If not, what will be the dimensions of both the garage itself and the garage door? I ask because a friend of mine built his too small, and I'd hate to see you make the same mistake.

50 amp is the way to go. I have a 30 amp but I can only run one AC unit if I want to use a Vacumn cleaner or whatever when we are cleaning or prepping or RV.

If your garage has a proper RV-50 amp outlet by all means use it.

There is one and only one possible issue: This is with your converter,, Some OLDER RVs have very poor converters that can damage your battery if plugged in full time.

HOWEVER.. They one model I know for sure does this is a 30 amp power center assembly,, Your RV is a 50, Most 50 amp rigs (Key word MOST) have decent converters.

Finally: Reducing to 20 amp.. Will make no difference at all in what I just posted. Not one bit. So go ahead and plug into the 50. The RV will only draw what it needs, (likely around 1 amp)

Where I store my RV I only have access to 110 but I wish I had 50 amp.

My current coach (2001 Monaco Dynasty) is plugged into 50A service from the house while sitting in driveway. That is the only way to do it! No problems, and if I want to, she keeps herself warm and fully operational on cold nights. If I need to work on her in the summer, all AC units running full tilt to keep ambient reasonable. 50A is the way to go.
