Generator Failure Codes 3 and 36

Our generator failed in the way to Eagle right in the middle of lunch. Ran like a top then suddenly quit and wouldn't restart, showed code 36. I had just over 1/4 tank of fuel so we thought that was the culprit. Filled up and it still wouldn't start, now it showed code 3 then 36. Code 3 just means another code follows. Code 36 is a fuel or air supply issue.

Chuck (Brobox) gave me some pointers on changing the fuel filter but I decided not to tackle it and took it to a Cummins Service Center just east of Boise this morning. Turned out to be the fuel pump. They changed it, test ran it for an hour, gave me my keys and said "Have a good day."

If you need Cummins or Onan service while in the Boise area I recommend Cummins Rocky Mountain. They are off I-84 a couple miles east of town, near Micron. Cleanest and most organized appearing truck service center I have ever seen!

Generator also suddenly stopped in My Anthem. Cummins dealer replace fuel pump. Told me their was a run of bad fuel pumps on the Cummins Generators in the Entegra. Has been running fine since.

Glad you got it fixed Vance. From the posts I've seen, the fuel pumps seems to be a weak point on the 12500. At least it was under warranty and you didn't have to get your hands dirty.

What year and model of coach do you have? Just wondering if mine is in danger of being next.

Any reason why Entegra? That genny is probably a common component across many manufactures lineups. I doubt if they build an Entegra-specific Onan generator.

My Anthem is a 2014. I have about 200 hours on the generator.

Just great !! The 12.5 Cummins is what we have in the Magna that blew the engine again!

I've read this about the fuel pump failures so often that I bought a spare and carry it in my spare parts bin. They aren't expensive, I'd rather have one and not need it than need it and not have it.

TerryO, good idea. How easy is the fuel pump to get to for a roadside repair? You have me thinking along those lines as well. Cummins only part or will a fuel pump for the Kabota engine fit?

I think it is pretty generic - something like this, about $40:

Airtex-E11020-Electric-Fuel-Pump

I received a copy of the invoice sent to Cummins for my generator fuel pump replacement. $462.50!!! $86 was parts, the rest was diagnostics and labor. The tech notes said he had to remove the generator mount bolts and slide it forward to get at the pump which is behind the rear panel. Those of you planning on roadside repairs may want to check it out.

Vance, do you happen to have the fuel pump part number.? I tried to pull up a diagram for the location, but couldn't find one. The part number might help. I might not worry about it until the warranty is up
