Generator repair rip-off?
Howdy, I'm new to Entegra and this Forum but have read several helpful posts. So here is a question for y'all. I just had a fuel line replaced on the Onan 10000 generator in my 2014 Aspire. The service center said they needed to pull the generator out to replace the fuel line. Was that necessary, or were they just in need of an additional$400.00?

Do you know where the fuel line is routed? Removing the generator or pulling it out on rails is often a first step in even simple procedures. The RV manufacturer tucks components where they fit and take up the least space, they don't think of service or repairs down the road.
Unless you are prepared to do repairs yourself, you'll have to hand over your wallet for someone else to do the job. A yacht is a hole in the water you pour money into, an RV is the same but on land.

They could have done it while mounted on the slide but practically the access is much more difficult and actually might have cost more labor $$$ because of the extra time. You probably got a better job since they did it without access being compromised.
Did they have any explanation as to why you needed a new fuel line on a practically new unit?

I had a fuel leek in front and towards the right rear under the generator. I was told they had to remove the cover to diagnose the problem and in order to do that they needed to remove the generator. They did discover a damaged fuel line which they replaced.

They prolly put everything back better that's if anything was loose. also they were able to get a good look at the beast and tighten stuff and reroute wires and what not. I personally think it was a decent investment. Just sayinn.

Was the fuel line not covered under Onan's warranty? It's probably on the Entegra side, which would be 2 years. A question worth asking.
Generators are one of those items that you can work on them yourself, or you need the expertise of a shop. Once it goes to the shop, you are at there mercy.

This is only a general sense, but the charge was probably legitimate, particularly if the problem was behind the genny. If the shop had a pit where you could drive over and get up behind the genny, that might have avoided the genny pull, but working behind that darn genny with it still in there would be a real PITA.

Really happy they found and fixed the fuel leak. I would not mind them pulling it to make sure everything else is secure, especially the fuel line.

If your gen is not on a slideout you WILL have to drop it to do just about anything to it except change oil and filters. You can't get the covers off.
