So.....I decided to open my delicate, rose petal, ornamental grade Girard awning yesterday just to exercise it and make sure it was dry during a brief sunny windless interval and it rewarded my by snapping and arm off at the outer rail and then punching the arm thru the fabric. I now have this tangled bulky mess of fabric and arms protruding from the mounting rail on the roof.
While tempted to just unbolt the whole thing and leave it lying here on the ground I am wondering if anyone had the basics of getting the thing to deploy so I can assess the damage and see what actually happened. I had to support it with some 10' PVC pipe sections to get it somewhat closed so that is my first guess as to how to open it without wrecking the side of the coach. Any seasoned experience would give me a little more confidence to try something.
Editorial: We have parked in one spot for about 2 weeks now and everyday something different has broken on this coach. The awning was the most traumatic or dramatic so far but this thing is really trying my patience. Gasoline and a match seems a likely solution the way I feel. Thanks for the counseling vent.
