Good Samaritan story

Driving down I-5, just south of Portland. Same place where a large rock damaged our windshield beyond repair, but thatís another story. Pouring rain, debris on road. Thought I missed the debris.

About 2 miles down the road we get flagged by a passing motorist, clearly I have a problem. I pull off at an exit with a lot of room. Check it out, front driver tire on the car is pretty well gone, nothing left but tire beads. Called CoachNet, they said someone would be down in 30 minutes.

30 minutes later a small car (not a tow truck) pulls off the road and a young Latino kid jumps out. He said no problem, Iíll have that changed for you in a jiffy. He gets out my jack and spare and replaces the tire with my spare.

I thank him and did tell him I was surprised a tow company would send out a regular car. Turns out he wasnít from the tow company, he just thought we could use the help. Said if his parents or grandparents needed help he hoped someone would stop for them.

I offered him some money and he refused. Just was glad to be able to help. I may take issue with the grandparents thing but it sure was nice for a young man to stop on his way home to help an old couple stopped along the side of the road. Thereís hope for the world.

Amazing, and it donít look like there is any damage to your toad.
Refreshing that there are still caring people, particularly a younger person.

Nice story - there are good ones out there. Reminds me when Romo assumed the starting QB role here in Dallas, came home from a road game at 2am, stopped to help a single mom change a tire on his way home.

Happy your toad had no damage as well.

Follow up.... bought the tires at Les Schwab in Florence, OR. Took it to the one in Eugene and they replaced the tire no questions asked. It would seem their ďpeace of mindĒ warranty lives up to its claims. And finally, no wheel well damage, no damage down the side of the car, and no damage to the wheel itself. Better buy a lottery ticket...

This may be a bit busy bodyish, but if you'd have had a TPMS, you'd probably have known about the problem sooner.

You're absolutely right. I used to have TPMS on my toad but never got new sensors for them.

My intention (roadway to hell?) was to try to find a way to read my builtin toad sensors as I am able to check tire pressure on my cell phone at any time. I was going to write a program to alert me to low pressure sensed by the factory sensors but never got around to it. I did get an email that I had a flat but didn't read it until it was too ate.
