Goodyears totaled an Aspire!!

I received a shocking email from a close forum member yesterday and I am still in shock! I am not at liberty to say who the member is or any of the details.

They "had" an Aspire that the right front Goodyear blew totaling there coach. It rolled on both sides totaling the coach and everything inside They are OK, but did loose everything inside including their beloved cat.

Below in Blue is a copy and paste of their maintence. If others think their Goodyears are safe you are gambling with your life. These things sound like BOMBS waiting to explode. Just me, but my life is worth a hell of a lot more than a $1,200 tire change.

I am not going into detail of the hell they have gone though loosing everything inside including possibly their toad. They are so thankful that they had a S&B to go to.

We're fine with you doing a general post - we wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else. We did everything right to protect those tires - alignments, pressure checks, UV covers, stored under cover, etc. They looked good - and we had the coach aligned and serviced at two different facilities since April. No one saw any problems with the tires. And that one blew anyway.

Thanks for the post. This is a serious matter.

There is no mention of the age of the tires.

I am not at liberty to post details, but the tires are on a newer model Entegra and far from being aged out. I made the post to make others aware with the same tire, same model.....it DOES happen.

I think the first one was built in 2012 so tire at max 7 years old?

I lied. NADA says first year was 2009

First things first, horrible that this happened and glad they survived the crash.

I am by no means a fan of Goodyear tires and on a brand new coach had to have the steer tires replaced almost immediately due to them being severely out of round.

With all that said there is much we don't know such as tire age, were the tires inspected by a Goodyear tire shop annually, is there a chance they hit something on the road. Did they have a TPMS to monitor pressures and temperature of the tires. To many unknowns.

There are a lot of Goodyears running out there not having blowouts. There are also Michelins and other brands out there that have blowouts as well. I personally think it's an over reaction to call them bombs just waiting to explode.

are the goodyear concerns specific to the model of tire and or the size. I have goodyears but I am sure they are not the same size tire as would be on an Aspire.

Brian, sorry I stated my opinion. In the past couple of weeks I have had two good friends on this forum have had the same tire blowout. Maybe I let my emotions get the best of me. I just passed on another situation that other may take as they wish.

I had the right front blow last year, three year old Michelin. When it blew I did not let off the accelerator, coach went straight, I then slowly let up and lost speed gradually , and was lucky to be able to come to a stop on the shoulder.
I have a 38 foot diesel pusher. I have been a fan of Michelin for years, when I had the blow out i had to take what the road service could provide which was Goodyear.

First of all I too am glad to hear your friends are okay, but sorry to hear about the loss of the cat, and of course of their coach.

I am also not a fan of Goodyears, but that has to do with the 'rivering' problems I have read about in the past.

However I think it's a bit irresponsible to condemn a particular manufacturer without posting the details. The condemnnation may be well deserved, but not based on the information provided.

What posts like these do is possibly needlessly scare the 'you know what' out of hundreds of owners currently using the product.

On a previous coach, I had a similar blowout on a four year old Goodyear tire that caused $10,000 in damage. You could not pay me to run Goodyears on my coach.

Brobox,

I totally get it. Like I said I am not fond of GY tires either. I am sure if it happened to me or one of my friends I would have the same reaction.

I thoroughly enjoy your posts, and have learned many things because of you.

Respectfully,
Brian
