Had My Mind Made Up....and Then.....

The DW and I will retire in 5 years. We plan to buy a DP to use to visit the widely-dispersed offspring. We'd pretty much decided to wait until Retirement Day is about a year away, then buy.

Aspire looks like the one. And now, the availability of a few Aspires with the IFS frame has me wondering whether it might make sense to buy now instead. We'd get relatively little use out of it now, and it WOULD be nearly 5 years old before we'd get regular use out of it.... but getting that suspension seems like an awfully big deal... Opinions? Thanks in advance...

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I'm not familiar with that coach but I would think similar ones would still be available in four years. If you're not going to use it I would wait. JMHO.

Av8r, there are a few dealers that kept aside some Spartan Chassis with the IFS for the Aspire. I know RVOne was one of those dealers and there are others out there.

With the rapidity of changes in the units, all of which seem to be upgrades, it may be better to wait. On the other hand, the prices will no doubt rise and waiting may be an expensive proposition. You've got pros and cons on both sides of this argument.

We are still working and will be for several years. In spite of that parameter we have a DP and are looking to upgrade to the Aspire or Anthem within the next year or two. For us, we like the idea of being able to use our rig and enjoy it now. You never know what the future may hold.

Five years from now who knows what the "hot" new thing will be. One thing I can tell you, over all the years we've owned RVs the higher end amenities have always seemed to trickle down to the more moderately priced rigs and even the least expensive DPs have power that rivals what the high end rigs did 5 or 10 years ago. I'd not buy now simply because you're worried what you want will not be available in 5 years. Worst case scenario, you'll be able to buy that same rig you have your eye on now for a fraction of the price paid when it was new, and low mileage rigs of 3 to 5 years of age are not all that difficult to find.

Buy now if you would use it now. If not, hold off. They make for extremely expensive lawn ornaments.

No, No, no! Do NOT buy any RV 5 years in advance. Same for an automobile. Its called depreciation. They teach that in RV101.

You can look for a used aspire in 2 or 3 years with the IFS, and get it a lot cheaper. Plus all the new bugs will he worked out of it by then.
