Gary, it is quite common to issue dual checks in our area also, even on cars. Assures bank and insurance co it will be fixed and assured you leverage over the shop that is fixing it. Really a win win. All JMHO

Gary, same for hail damage on a house. The lender has a first lien on the property same as your MH lender does on the title. In the loan documents (fine print) it states that insurance checks are to be made to the lender first, then the insurer. The lender wants to be sure the loan is covered and repairs being made.

Thought I should update:

Although the body shop at NiRVC in Lewisville originally thought that they would repair the roof radius rail hail damage by using "glazing" (actually modern-day Bondo compounds) and repainting, now that I have delivered it to them to fix, they have revised their thinking and have decided that they are going to replace the rails with new radius rails. I am assuming that this makes it a much bigger job and I assume insurance likely will be expected to provide additional reimbursement beyond the original estimate. I have no idea why the change in strategy was made. I don't really care as long as I get the coach well before we have to depart for Quartzsite and the desert SouthWest.

For others who might find themselves in a similar situation, I was amazed at the number of steps that would be involved. Now they are going to take out and replace the roof rails which involved removing all the actual and "fake" Girard awning units, new installation, priming, painting three or four different colors, clear coat, baking the coach in the paint "oven", re-install all awnings, and finally re-sealing all the awning and roof joints as the "baking" process will negatively impact the seals.

No wonder this costs more than one would probably estimate.

Gary, That's bad news in my opinion and a concern I have when we take ours in for our hail damage roof radius repairs. I have to wonder if R & R is the way to go rather then accept the best possible glaze repair. After all removing the awnings and opening up the roof/sidewall and getting all properly sealed or not could be a much worse outcome !

I hope it all works out for the best !

Hail damage

We had hail damage on our 2017 Anthem at our home in the UP of Michigan last June 30Th. The hail was 4 inch size. We had one roof rail replaced at S & S in Wakarusa,Indiana. Plus both solar panels were destroyed and replaced. It cost $7,000. Plus a one week stay at a motel while they did the work. Mark, the owner of the shop put a new roof rail over the top of the damaged one. He said it would make it stronger. He does excellent work and was recommended by Entegra. We can’t say enough good about his shop.

The hail also damaged the roofs on all our buildings at home. They were metal roofs to allow the snow to slide off. That cost another $25,500.00. All of our neighbors had to have their roofs changed.

I am sure by now that you have had the work done and hope that you are happy with it.

I do feel bad for you . We had 2 record hail storms in Colorado Springs this summer, first one had softball size hail . Lots of totaled rigs and cars , ours included.

I had damage from an accident where a car next to me tried to occupy the same lane I was in. The whole side of the MH was gouged. I used S&S in Wakarusa, INDIANA also and they did a great job. Jayco recommended them to me. Total satisfaction is how I can best describe my dealing with Mark at S&S.

I have no idea how the video got inserted into my post above since that is not my coach. I assume somehow the video from Bob immediately below my post somehow also got attached to my post (maybe being processed simultaneously??)?
