My last two homes had soft water. Over time all my shower doors had scaly stains on them. It takes time, but they will spot. When we installed the shower doors in my new home, we used a treated glass. No spots in 1.5 years. I'm going to find out what it's treated with and coat the coaches doors

Good old southern California water. It's a mix of Colorado River water, water from northern CA via the aqueduct, and (mostly) local ground water. Eats fixtures, and your clothes get hard as a board. I have not yet hooked up the DI system in the RV because starting with this water as a base, I'll run through the resin in no time at all. The chart on their site that shows the number of gallons treatable goes "all the way" up to 400 ppm. I extrapolated from there and decided I need to install a whole-RV RO system. A future project....

The trouble with RO is that it wastes 8 gallons for every usable gallon. Then it's stored in a 5-10 gallon tank. They are practical for sink use or ice maker/drinking water, but not showers, washers or toilets. Once the storage tank depletes your pressure drops until it is replenished. That can take a while. Also, RO systems ideally should use softened water. I plan to install both a water softener and small RO for drinking
