Given that the amount of diesel the aqua hot takes to run ... (not much); I have decided to just run the gas heat this winter and not the electric heat pump. Keeps the coach nice and warm and I don't have to hear the overhead fans going all the time. I pay for electric where I am parked anyway ... so might as well be nice and warm and pay for the diesel instead.

I agree with you Lynn. The one an only time we tried to use the heat pumps we woke up to 48 degrees inside. Mine shut off with a low forecast that evening at 42 degrees. Diesel is a lot cheaper than my old propane, so "burners" is what my AH will be set at.

Chuck
My understanding is that our AC/Heat Pumps are designed to turn off at 43 degrees, so I think that yours were doing exactly what they were supposed to do....
Even in my sticks and bricks house, if I know the temps are going below 43 degrees that night, before bed, I turn off the heat pumps and simply move to the "emergency heat" strip heat units for the night... no sense wasting the time and energy it takes to see if the heat pumps can hold the heat before they give up and switch over to the heat strips....

Sigh, drained and winterized in October, but thanks for the heads up!
We will be heading South in February for a BIG change, can't get her wet till around North Carolina even then. Heated tanks only go so far.

Depends on which instructions you read. I can afford the diesel, so if it's foretasted to be in the 40's the AH burner will be on. Who's to say the weatherman is always right? At least the ones in my area are wrong 50% of the time, but still keep their jobs.

Dave, I totally agree. After experiencing our traffic today....anywhere out west is a better place to spend the winter

Out West in the Vegas area the nights are in the 30's with some low 40's but over all so far so good.....or cold I should say. Last winter ran only my AH all winter long and fuel costs were negligible for the duration. I'll do the same in any cold weather and let the AH due what it's designed to do.....keeping it toasty. But I'm already anticipating spring for traveling this great country.

Therms are always cheaper than BTU's
Run the AH and all will be toasty...
