Actually this is an urban myth. They migrated here from central america and are slowly irritating other states. Gotta watch some of the socalled facts that are spread on the internet.

Good call on the myth.
Just had a little documentary on this last week, local TV.

I'm moving to SWFL next month, near Cape Coral. Are LBs a problem there?

Yes they have them, not a big problem unless your running the highways.
Urban driving don't seem to spatter them.

Good news is the spring season just appears to be ending. Actually, the worst I have seen (only been here 4 years) was up North by Ocala.

Welcome to SW Florida!

LB's are a problem May and September...You are right don't leave them on your finish. Their innards will disolve your finish.
I spray the front of the bus with Pam, the cooking stuff, then hose off the bugs after the days travel.
Wally world sells a weak purple stuff, I think it is called "purple Cleaner", if you WET FIRST with a hose, they spray them with the stuff, they will melt off, no damage to finish.
I say WET FIRST because if sprayed on hot dry vinyl decals, it may streak. Applyoing water first will keep this from happening...
