HATE Lovebugs

Well, just drove through a storm of lovebugs,,,had to pull over twice just to clear (not clean) the windshield.

How do you all deal with these things...took me two hours to get the front cleaned tonight....awful things they are.

All suggestions, preventative and cleanup after the mess are welcomed.

Thanks

Tiffin RV Network just had a topic on taking care of Love Bugs. There were several suggestions on how to clean them off but the best suggestion was to use Rejex so that they won't stick.

RejeX

I apply Rejex in the spring and fall to the whole coach including the roof and windshield. I also apply a fresh coat to the front before each trip. Most of the bugs will wash off with just a garden hose and a brush.

Another poster was going to try using clear wrap on the front of his coach. The only problem with that is it is against the law to use it on the windshield.

Good Luck,
Jon

Haven't had to deal with these little buggers myself but many of my friends swear by Rejex on their diamond shield and windshields. RejeX: Nothing Sticks but the Shine!

After many years in South Louisiana and Southeast Texas, prime love bug country, I have found Rejex to be the best. I just applied a new coat of Rejex to myJeep, and also use it on my wife's car and the RV.

Not so much Luving Bugs

Living in Florida I have cope with these black, smeary, darlings. I bought 2 of those Love Bug Erasers a previous poster mentioned, and they do indeed work well.....but with caution. A car detailer guy warned me never use those on a pure black automotive finish as they will leave fine haze scratches. I use the alive Bug erasers on parts of the front of my RV but I shy away from the very dark brown frontal areas. I never use them on my wife's black pearl Lexus.

Just a note of caution.

By the way did you know love bugs are not native to Florida? They were started in Florida to eat Mosquitos or something and of course, when man plays with the Ecology, they generally screw it up. All they do is breed and die.

If you haven't encountered Lovebugs, here are some photos of what I picked up last week. This was on a three-hour drive, on which I stopped half-way to clean the windshield.

We use an old bed sheet. Wet it and drape it over the front of the vehicle. Leave it for a couple of hours and they will be easily removed with soap and water.

We lived in far SE GA in the early 70s, and the LBs arrived and suddenly became living clouds.
They have 2 seasons of being totally wicked. And they gather along roads as they love exhaust fumes!
We did enough LB time to last forever back then. But humidity is my enemy now. In LB season you can find me quarantined somewhere in the dry SW.

Stink bugs is a whole nuther issue. :-(

Actually this is an urban myth. They migrated here from central america and are slowly irritating other states. Gotta watch some of the socalled facts that are spread on the internet.

I ordered the Love Bug Eraser and the package just arrived. I am quite surprised at how rough these things are. Hard to believe they wont scratch the paint and the Diamond Bright. If I had seen them first I would not have purchased them. I won’t be using these on anything except perhaps the windshield.

X2. I also do the whole coach twice a year. I live in So. Fl. I got a car full and they( their splat ) ate the paint off my Lexus a few years ago. With Rejex the bodies come right off and a little water removes the rest easily.
