Oil analysis can tell you how often to change oil based on how the engine and oil interact. I've used it for a couple of cars and motorcycles, and I found out just how far I could safely stretch out my oil changes, and it was always farther than the manual recommendations.

I think I agree. But once a year ain't too bad at $230 including the oil test in 40 minutes +/- and I feel better about it.
I do about 12 K miles/year full timing, so it's about 2c per mile and includes filters, lube, et al.
But each to their own

The oil change for $1000.00 was at Cummins Western Canada, Regina, Sask. They changed the lube and fuel filters on the engine only. Guess I'll never see them again, I'm going to find a Speedco somewhere!!

I just got all of the oil and fuel filters changed including the generator. For right at $600.00.
My question is I was told the oil changes need to be at 10,000 miles or 1 year.
When the tech went to reset dash it was preset at 6,000 miles.
I'm more confused than ever.

Our manual are different Noel. I wish I could copy and paste from PDF, but mine on page 2-3 Maintenance Guideline states Lubricating oil and filters 15,000 miles. It doesn't make much difference as I change oil at the end of each season before storing for the winter. I have had as low as 6,000 and changed the oil and filters. I change oil at the one year interval.

As much as I am in shops, not by choice, I won't even give Cummins the opportunity to say "my engine was neglected, therefore it is not covered".

Check the owners manual for your engine. My old 350 was 10,000 miles, the new 450 is 15,000.

I don't care what the manual says, I would never go over 10,000. Oil does not wear out, it gets contaminated by moisture and acid.

Rotella oil and Baldwin Filters. I talk about the filters and some limitations in a earlier post in this thread.

Getting your oil good and hot can get rid of those. Acid loves water, and water evaporates when it gets hot, so unless you have a closed system those things can be reduced by driving until the oil gets hot for a good while.

How many miles between oil (and filter ) changes

? But when the water evaporates (steam) many acids won't go with it...
