We get underway between 7 and 8 AM, stop for breakfast around 9 and then lunch between 12 and 2 PM.
About 4 or 5 PM, we look for an overnight stop. Walmart, Cabelas or Flying J.
We don't track the miles.

We are not Interstate travelers and enjoy taking the scenic highways and seeing America. 300 mile is about max, maybe 320 to reach a better stop.

Like the line from an old Ronnie Milsap song says - "the first rule is that there ain't no rules". We're finding that we like to cap our driving days somewhere around the 300 mile mark. However, with both my DW and I capable of driving - 600+ miles in a day isn't out of the question if/when circumstances demand it.
Our January run from Michigan to Florida this year was a 2.5 day trip (450 miles, 525 miles and 275 miles). Walmart "overnight" stops in a still winterized coach ... we were happy to endure a couple of long days of driving to flee the cold and get somewhere warm. I expect we'll likely do something similar next year.
The fact that I'm still working ... means that unless I'm willing to burn a vacation day - I can't drive between 8 am - 2 pm Mondays thru Fridays. If we've headed for a "distant" destination - we either roll some miles on the weekends - or really dawdle along on what travelling we can get in with a 2:30 pm departure on weekdays.
With both of us able to drive - we've got options to safely cover ground when it best suits our needs.

400 miles
We prefer to do around 400 miles, but we have done 800 miles with both of us sharing the driving.

If one confines their driving to the super slabs then miles can be fairly predictable. What really counts is time behind the wheel. We prefer 6-8 and take what we get in miles. That can mean anything between 200 and 500 or so. Lower miles = more interesting sights and places to stop.

I drive 400-500 a day. However I am generally and Interstate hwy driver. I've seen all the farm houses, silos, and windmills I want to see. I plan what I want to see and how long I want to be there. Getting there is important and I don't want to be behind a tractor on a 2 lane hwy for an hour going 35mph. I know it's the trip that's important and I do enjoy the way I do it. My drivers seat is extremely comfortable and my coach drives like a dream. I'll put in the miles if need be.

I did Tampa to Bend, OR last winter in 2.5 days...because I had a reason to That being said, I prefer less than 400 miles a day. What I really like is getting to my destination and staying for awhile, getting to know the area.

We normally do not have a destination, we are on a journey. We will stop to inspect new sights we discover, spend an extra day every couple of days and rarely get in a hurry, we often do the side roads and 200-325 a driving day is ideal. We can do more if needed and sometimes do but that is not our preference. For example we will soon leave for three months to the Pacific Northwest and will visit many places we have been before, planning on some new ones and expecting some surprise stops that just pop out to us as we discover them. Very few plans but high expectations, enjoying what this country as to offer and often being surmised.

I agree with Ann N Gene. We try to abide by the two fifty rule: "250 miles or 2:50 in the afternoon---time to shut her down." We enjoy the time in the area and frequently eat out at a place recommended by the office. If we are on a tight schedule we may stretch to 400-450 miles but not very often.
We may be different than others, but we plan the whole trip. We leave in early June for Alaska and return on Labor day and reservations are already made for every stop. I provide the DW with a book with all of the details and she manages everything on the road.

We just drove from Orlando to Phoenix in 3 day. Thats about 700 mile a day. Way too much driving the next trip will be 300-400 a day.

We plan on 300 miles/day with a little +/-. We also try to drive only 2 days in a row then spend at least one extra night. Our departures are leisurely; 9:30 is a early start for us. We try to use the same rule is did while flying; at our destination by happy hour.
We were on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan when we got word our son in Idaho was hit by a car. We drove >1,900 miles in 3 days to get to him. Luckily it was almost all interstate driving.

For us, it depends where we're spending the night. If in a park, I prefer doing about 300mi, and getting in around 3pm'ish.
If a Walmart parking lot, I see no point in stopping at 3pm.

We try to easily be in well before dark. Parks usually want you in by 6ish. If we are making a long haul (eg. California to Louisiana or somewhere NE to Louisiana and we are just trying to get there and spend the night in rest stops, WalMarts, Cabellas, off the side of an interstate, then it is just before dark and we try to be underway by 8:00 am. I always have a ceremonial cold beer upon slides out as my reward for the safe day!
