I75 Through Atlanta
Has anyone here taken I75 north through Atlanta and if so would you do it again ? We are going north on 75 tomorrow and we have done it many times but we have always taken the by- pass around Atlanta and we would like to know what the trip through on 75 is like. We have a 45' RV towing a Jeep. Any info anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.....Alan

Yes, and yes. I’ve done the bypass and I’ve done I-75 straight through and both are equally bothersome. But if you time it for mid-day (10AM to 3 PM) I think the straight through route is just as fast (or slow) and it is shorter.

Both routes are a PITA. Best thing to do is check the app WAZE before to check current real time traffic conditions. Last time through on a Saturday we took the West bypass....big mistake, 2.5 hour construction delay. I didn't check WAZE, now I am a believer.
I turned on WAZE while sitting dead stopped in traffic. It showed the west route totally red with a 2.5 hour delay......it was right on, 2.5 hours to reach I-75 North bound. Now our daily route is put into WAZE, if nothing else, the road hazard warnings are worth it.

Google Maps also gives traffic info (almost real time) and offers detours. That has worked for me a couple of times places other than ATL

All good advice. Beat to avoid Atlanta routes at rush hour..
Lived there for a long time - no real good options to go around.

Always just punch up straight through on I-75/85. Time it mid-morning and it won't be too bad. Just watch which lane you need to be in as 75/85 lane switches aren't necessarily logical through downtown.
IMHO straight through downtown is better than the bypass in either direction, if needing to just get through to the other side of ATL and beyond. I75 North is just a mess from 30 miles south of twon to north of Knoxville....no matter what you do.....all the way up into Tennessee and sections beyond, but don't let it intimidate you. Many city's can be just as bad if not worse!!

Yes there is, North Carolina, that's how much DW hates Atlanta.

I started driving in Atlanta in 1954. It is not a fun driving place. I used to
take I285, but in the last few years truck traffic has really increased on 285. I75 straight through is almost always faster. NEVER, NEVER, come through on Friday afternoon and evening. Avoid rush hour and take the HOV lane. (It is legal if you have two or more people in the vehicle.)

I have gone through and around. Like everyone else said, pia but pick a lane, take it easy and let everyone go around you. I do it with a 40 ft 5th wheel.

I75 Through Atlanta
I went thru Atlanta last Saturday afternoon with a 45' towing an Explorer and had stop and go even using the HOV lane. I go thru Atlanta 5 or six times a year and always use the HOV. As stated from 30 miles south of Atlanta to Knoxville it is heavy traffic all the way. There was road construction north of Chattanooga northbound that caused a 2 hr delay.

I prefer to go straight through on 75, just did it Monday coming to Tampa. Ive never found the bypass to do anything for me.

Since I live in NC - definitely agree.
Not sure where the OP was starting from but I-95 I-26 I-40 to Knoxville is a pretty pleasant ride.

Me too ..... I-75 can be terrible, but so can all the other routes. I try to find my lane and stay in it so I am not lane changing much. I travel at whatever speed everyone else is moving. Phoenix has been worse .... Houston a nightmare at times .... Chicago, stay away !! Fait accompli
