After seeing Cruzer's mod of the water tank (post #1583) http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/tell...154379-64.html
thought I would do the same but store my tools on top of the tank! Everything fits except one small box. Problem solved. Thanks for the idea, Mark!

Passenger side front compartment. The weight nicely offsets the house batteries on the drivers side making for good distribution, per tire weight.
Fabbed this using an over center gas shock, so the slide wants to stay closed when it is closed and open when it is open...no latches, no rattling.
Edit: and you get the bonus tractor pic!

Yup. Just noticed you have a 2016, so this is in your fridge spot. You could probably turn it sideways and put it in the rear spot. Almost as effective except with my setup it isn't absolutely necessary to pull the slide out to get at tools. Other possibility is moving the fridge back to the rear where it was (wiring, ugh). The one thing you do not want to do, IMO is put it on the driver's side of the coach. That puts you in traffic getting tools when you are by the side of the road.
I am looking at trading up to a new CS, so have thought some about this.

Great job, Rubicon. I would love to do that mod. Can you fill us in on the materials you used, and perhaps post a drawing or photo of the gas shock installation?

These are the drawer slides:
Extra Heavy Duty (Over 300lbs)
All the steel is 1.8' thick, all obtained from a local supplier (S and K Steel in Sacramento, CA). The floor mounting brackets are angle that is 1 1/4" by 5", with 1 1/4" flat braces welded perpendicular. to hold them at the correct width. The tray that holds the box is a very simple square fabbed from 1 1/4" x 1/8" angle.
The first pic shows a detail of where the tray is mounted to the floor mounted via the slide.
The second pic here is looking at the floor mount behind the toolbox when it is in the "open" position. You can see the construction and the mounting of the gas shock. Note that the gas shock is pushing the toolbox in the "open" position. As you push the toolbox back into the cabinet the shock compresses until it goes past a center point and then begins to push the box into the cabinet, eventually holding it in the closed position. I don't recall which shock I ended up with, but do remember trying a few from the local auto parts store before I found one that had the right combination of length and strength.
Your bonus for this set of pictures is snow falling in the pictures in sunny California.

Thanks for the shock picture and idea. I have already done the tool box slide and it's great. The shock idea is going to make it even better...I have latches that are constantly bending. Thanks.

Had larger Dometic box from previous coach so I moved smaller Dometic unit to front compartment and installed existing Dometic box in original location. Use larger box for drinks, etc and keep it at 33 degrees and the smaller box for extra frozen stuff and keep it at zero.
Took box is on slide out in roadside compartment with batteries.
Works for me!
