Kentucky and Tennessee Bourbon Trail

Okay, so that's a bit of a misnomer as the trail in TN is really the whiskey trail. We are headed down to TN and KY after the Spartan Academy and wondering for those of you who have done the Bourbon Trail and Whiskey Trails where did you stay as a central point for the tours. We seem to have honed in on Louisville South KOA for now. Any other suggestions?

They are fairly spread out and you might consider more than one hone base.
For the ones around Lexington the Horse Park CG is a popular and nice park. The horse park itself is worth spending a day.
We have also done a guided tour of Lexington area horse farms that was enjoyable and informative.
I live Bourbon but dont think I would attempt the trail all at once no less folliw it w TN.
May just be me...

Don, thanks for the response. We were going to start south and then gradually head north. Our first stop will be in Gatlinburg and then we'll head back up I-75.

We stayed at Cave Country RV Park in Cave City Ky. Small park but very nice. Level spots, good wifi. About an hours drive from Makers Mark distillery. If in the area be sure to tour the barrel makers in Bardstown. The park is also about 15 minutes from Mammoth National Park. Mammoth Cave is a nice side trip to chase your bourbon with

X1 on Cave Country and Mammoth Cave, awesome combination. Don't forget the Corvette Museum as it is only 30 miles south.

If you do stay at the horse park and like real BBQ there is a very good one nearby.
Don't recall name or exact location but we found it via a phone search of nearby eats.
It was nothing fancy but the BBQ was excellent #2 we've ever been to only beat by Coopers in TX... still our #1
Enjoy the bourbon! [emoji106]

bourbon trail

Like winemaker2 said they are spread out all over the state. 13 distilleries are part of the Bourbon Trails but there are many more that don't belong to the group like the distillery in Bardstown. I was told while touring there that they were originally part of the Trails group but they dropped out because they don't charge to tour their plant and to be in the Trails group you must charge a fee which varies at each distillery. Also check the websites because some say they don't have rv parking. Enjoy

Ed, No fee from most on the Trail, I just got home from touring 8 distilleries, and love the tours, did them over 2 full days then went to Church Hill downs, great time all over the area, the distilleries are on some beautiful property!!

I think you are describing Red State Barbecue which is south of the park. Excellent bbq.
