Not familiar with your brand of rig but hard to believe you don't have some kind of damage to power reel itself--hope not. Seems like the cords you find at CW or E-trailer are different from those that come on a reel--thicker/stiffer?????? Not sure an after-market, "stand-alone" cord will be compatible with existing OEM reel....keep us posted.....

PPl has cords with reels on sale until 12/1/17. Might be worth looking at if you need to replace the entire assembly.

Hate to say this, and sorry for your problem, but $1000 sounds pretty reasonable. Reel is likely $350+ and cord is several hundred. Couple of hours of labor and you have $1k.

That would make this an easy fix if the power reel is damaged. I think there’s only 4 screws holding the reel in place

I am only surprised that the reel didnt rip right out of the wood flooring when the cord pulled. Along with others, I would tend to believe that the reel is toast, but it should be easy to see if it is working or not..... does the electric control button turn the reel motor. The power to the reel and the power cord have nothing to do with each other.

The price for the PPL reel looks pretty good to me. It also appears to be close to an exact replica of the reel that is in there. If the reel does not function and there is no possibility of repair, then that seems like a cost effective way to go. Many of those spare power cords are very stiff.... I have one that I use so that when my coach is parked in the driveway, the Anthem's power cord is not exposed to Louisiana's summer sun, and so have power cord that was bought out of CW to suffer that exposure and it was much stiffer than the flexible cords that are stock on the OEM power reel. As Dave said, $1,000 doesn't sound too bad for a complete replacement including a new reel and labor plus someone who really knows how it needs to be done.

Also, as another said, my final step before pressing the drive button on the Allison is a very long, detailed look in both mirrors to see anything that is not normal (and that follows at least 2 or 3 walk-arounds the coach) prior to that. We live and learn. You will never make that mistake again....

Buddy, if you have any question about your ability to fix this, spend a little money on a mobile tech to band aid it until you get home.

I’d suggest removing the cord reel, cut off the damaged portion of your existing cord and reconnect it directly to the Transfer Switch.

Working with the large gauge wire isn’t much fun but it will help move you down the road.

Take the cover off of the Transfer Switch and take a picture before you remove any wires.

Next, match the same colors to the connections you took a picture of.

You’re going to have 2 load wires (120V each) a neutral and a ground. The Motorhome doesn’t care about the orientation of the load wires, as long as they go to the contactors. The neutral and ground are pretty hard to mistake.

Again, if any of this seems shaky, call a tech. Don’t do any work unless the shore cord is disconnected and the generator breaker if OFF. This will prevent getting shocked.

-Matt.

I did that too..

You are not alone.

I did a field repair but the results were less than reliable and wound up replacing the reel and the cord. Expensive, but nowhere near $1000. Maybe $5-600. Like Dave said - labor is the killer.

Most likely you have a reel from Glendenning. CRR-50 is a popular model. Give them a call for a replacement cord if the real is still operational. Easy to replace and the cable is much more flexible than just buying a cable from CW.

I had a defective power plug on mine. Pretty simple to replace. A couple of clamps, cover and 4 screws to attach the reel size lugs.

Totally new reel and cord is about $650

Tha ks in advance for any and all feedback/help

Might be much cheaper to buy a replacement cord reel from a surplus yard. Try Visone RV Surplus in East Bernstadt, KY. They have a web site and I have seen cord reels in a few of their photos.

Good Luck!

I was super lucky. The cord pulled clean from the ring terminals. No damage to the reel whatsoever. Just need a new power cord. The original one was severed in two places. E trailer has them for ~ $200

Been there done that... once
Just don't repeat it and you are OK
No damage at all, and the estimator knew that. He just thought he had a fat one (well, I am a little pudgy) It took me all of an hour to install the severed end with plug for a temporary fix. All plugged in and charging

When I plugged in to the garage power, I had to run the cord under the coach to the passenger side. Then I ran it inside the garage. In order to get it into the garage I had to open the garage entry door (regular hinged door) which had spring loaded hinges. The pressure of the door on the cord caused it to severe at that point, but not until it pulled the cord clean out of the ring terminals. The reel was left unscathed and the power posts are intact. Whew!

Way to look at it yourself first!!! It is unreal what repair shops try to pull. I guess they figure you have a high dollar MH, you can afford it with no questions asked. That is one of the things that make this forum so valuable.
