Lesson learned - Multiplex switches

Many of us have multiplex switch panels throughout our coaches to control lights, day/night shades and slide operations. My switches seem to have a gremlin living inside them as sometimes they work and other times they don't.

With the slides, the remote control has saved my bacon many a time when the retract button doesn't work. Also I'm supposed to be able to lower the front and rear shades independent of each other but only the All Down/All Up Master switch seems to work.

I have these issues on my punch list for the factory to fix when I visit next month. BUT the solution to all my multiplex button issues solved themselves this morning when I called the after hours CS number and Jacob answered. I couldn't get get the PS front slide to extend. He asked me if when I press the buttons, do I put my finger in the middle of the button and firmly/mash hold it down? I said I do. And he said that's the problem. Huh?!?

He went on to explain that the in/out (up/down) contacts behind the buttons are very close together. When you put your finger in the middle of the button and mash it down, often times both contacts are actually tripped. He explained that the best way to operate the buttons is like this. If you are operating a switch on the left side of the panel, place your finger on the very left lower corner of the button and press lightly. If operating a switch on the right side of the panel, place your finger on the right lower corner of the button and press lightly. By doing it this way, you don't accidentally engage both contacts.

I tried the buttons Jacob's way and suddenly all my buttons work the way they should. Now the up/down buttons for the front shades only (or back shades only) work. My slide EXT and RET buttons all work. It appears that my problems all along have been my fat fingers and applying too much pressure to the buttons.

Now would it have been nice if the dealer had told me this in the first place? Sure it would have been! But I'm more ecstatic that Entegra has an after hours number, manned by a real person that can get us through our issues whenever they arise. Joyce and Jacob? - I know you are out there listening - Good Job!!

Cool. Many times all the posts we read on these forums are about problems. Nice to hear of a solution once in a while.
