Might want to to take Highway 20 to the Mothership

If we are considered truck rates at IN toll booths this might effect us

I saw this post http://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/payin...ml#post4498452

and wanted to confirm it. https://cdllife.com/2018/indiana-tol...se-35-october/

Paying 35% more to get beat up twice as bad just isn't the way I prefer to travel.

It makes taking highway 20 an easier decision for some, others are going to take an Interstates no matter what. I have enjoyed Hwy 20 for 15 years and will enjoy it even more now.

Chuck

I thought that you avoided Interstates and took the back roads. Does that mean that you will take a $60 toll road rather than a free interstate? Confused

US 30 is another option. Once you get out of Northwest Indiana, it opens up. The only concern for us is the occasional stoplight and sleepy truckers who don't pay attention.

Reminds me of at least 4 posts with reports of toll booth damage. DSL417's was major. Thankfully the horse and buggies don't jump in front of MH's

We just came across the wonderful Indiana Toll Road in our car yesterday. We were driving back from our daughter’s in Cedar Rapids. The road is still in bad shape and you will get rattled even in a car.

We do have an EZ Pass so I’ll have to check and see if we get a discount in Indiana. I’ve never checked before to see if we get a discounted rate. Even if we do get the discount it isn’t worth it with the road being brutal westbound from the Ohio line to near Middlebury. US 20 is not a bad road but there are some two lane stretches that you need to be aware of.

That's great, I hope they make it as nice as the section they did west of Elkhart a few years ago. That is a super highway now. From what I hear, the turnpike has become worse with no repairs.
Thankful it will end 11/30. It is a long detour around without going on the turnpike. Indiana Traveler Information

I-90

Made the mistake of taking I-90 from Madison Wi on the way to Middlebury in August.

Over $75 in tolls, roads were in terrible condition, traffic was awful.

The first toll stop did not get over to the far right where a slightly wider toll lane was for trucks. Only cleared mirrors by a few inches on each side. After that made sure to get over to the far right lane.

After talking to some in Middlebury found out I-39 is the prefered route I should have taken. No tolls, less traffic, only about 25 additional miles compared to I-90 route.

On another note sure do like the Kum'N'Go stations for fueling in the area. Good prices, easy in and out, most had DEF.
