Mobley Data Usage

My DW and I sat down to take care of some of our monthly obligations this am. I'm not a big fan of automatic withdrawals from my checking acct as I've had problems stopping them in the past. I went on line to check and see whether my Mobley needed to be paid. I'm neither bragging nor complaining but our data usage for 3 days less than a month was 141.3 gigs. And we have had only 2 1/2 weeks of usage in the coach. I was shocked as I figured somewhere close to 1/2 of that. Plus the kids have used another 10 gigs on my Verizon plan. Waaay to much screen time. Changes coming tonight.

Out of curiosity, do you do a lot of movie/TV show streaming or other watching of videos or gaming?

DH always considered ourselves heavy users, but we typically are 20-40G per month between the two of us, and that's with him doing software/website development/uploads. We rarely stream video - last time we did was for the Ryder Cup and we did use quite a bit more than usual.

Good luck with that.

I had to change my cable plan at home to a highter tier. My son is an online gamer and both teenage kids are constantly streaming stuff. We use around 200-250 gigs per month. I have a router that keeps track of what each machine is using. My wife & I use around 10 gigs per month together - all the rest is the kids. My son has two screens - sometimes he is gaming on one and streaming you tube of other kids gaming or bowling or baseball games on another. He says he is "multitasking".

It's a new age.

We use about 60 gigs per month. The DW & I both work part time remote and that does not include any TV streaming. Direct TV Now is part of our unlimited plan and does not count against our usage

Wow. Lots of Facebook video without data saver turned on and streaming movies to watch, etc.?

We stream via Netflix a fair amount plus surfing, etc. Use ~30-40 a month.

I ordered the Mobley last night. Will I need to purchase any accessories (12v or 110v adaptors) for it to work in MH? Thanks
Paul

110v adapter works the best. The 12v is to short, the Mobley won't even sit on the dash causing a weak signal

Thanks Chuck.

FYI
There is a real nice COE campground (right behind dam) at Ft Peck, MT. Also nice summer playhouse in downtown Ft Peck. Great place for short break.

The Mobley is the best mod I've ever done! It's awesome!

Gary, what's nice about the Mobley Mod, it's "plug and play" If it works out at my storage location....I have great faith in it on the road. I just hope it is not abused and a short lived good thing.

We've never used to stream much and still used upwards of 40 gigs/mo mostly from photo and video uploads for the blog. Since the Mobley we now stream quite a bit more often but still only managed to hit about 50 gigs last cycle.

That's mostly Netflix and I have the "Playback Settings" on my Netflix account set to "Medium" (default is Auto), which potentially reduces bandwidth from about 3 gigs per hour to 0.7 per hour. Quality is still about DVD grade.

Also on the PC's we install ad blockers and other tools to try and minimize unnecessary traffic. We also use Glasswire to monitor net traffic on each PC.

Having a router that tracks the usage of each device by IP address or name can help pinpoint data hogs. One of our TV's did a firmware update recently and somehow chewed thru a surprisingly big chunk of data.

Mobley Data Usage

We get along with 10-15G per month. But 'get along' is very subjective. We rarely can use our devices because they are soooo slowwww. We have iPhone 7s , Verizon mifi and kindle readers but get so frustrated with them because so many people are hogging so much bandwidth that they are at times almost useless. Now, if we want to use them at 2 am they work fine, but why should we have to do that?

Just because your use or streaming doesn't count against your limit doesn't mean that it doesn't inconvenience other people.

Rant over, flame suit on.

Think I will hold off on the Mobely. Would really like to have it but from what I have seen here AT&T is likely to end it when they see the sage figures as it was designed for occasional use while in a GM vehicle. Hope I am wrong, we shall see. All JMHO
