Mods and Warranties
Perhaps a dumb question, but do mods such as changing the shocks have any effect on the warranties? Just curious. Thinking about changing to the Koni's before going to Spartan in October.

Shouldn't affect any warranty. Magnus-Ferguson Act type of situation. Manufacturer would need to prove that the damage was caused by the modified parts. In this case shocks you exchanged but didn't come with the Spartan chassis.

Spartan has changed shocks for many during the warranty period. I changed mine during the warranty period with no questions asked. In fact it was Spartan that recommend them and the part number.

Moss-Magnusson Act covers it.

Also worth noting that the company that supplies the front axles to Spartan (Reyco Granning) actually installs Koni shocks on at least some of their axles. Saw it with my own two eyes when we were at the Reyco Granning manufacturing plant in Mt. Vernon, Missouri in April.
As such, I'd think Spartan could spec Koni shocks from the get-go if they really wanted to.

I think that Spartan would be happy to spec the larger shocks - it's Entegra who decides what goes there. That's the best explanation I can think of for why they are easy to upgrade. The coach manufacturer specs the chassis, and that shock is OK for certain weight ranges. It isn't Spartan's fault if the shock is underrated.

Good point, but Spartan could easily make the decision to offer only one brand of shocks (i.e., Koni). I have to believe the cost differential (if any) would be lost in the rounding of the total cost of a given chassis.

I just happen to think of something after rereading the post this morning. If mods would have effected the warranty, Entegra would never have had to honor a warranty claim on my coach. You name it, I probably did it in the first year. Much of it posted on the "Show us Your Mods" post.
My biggest mistake was waiting until the second year to change the shocks.
