Near disaster averted
Dodged a large bullet on Wed. We finally got out of Bend on Tues afternoon after finishing our PDI and having the dealer installed options completed and drove to the Oregon Coast. One of the requests I made was to have a hot water line run up to the generator bay. I decided to show Derek how to clean off bugs w/ hot water. As many of you know you cannot open the powered generator door unless the ignition is turned on. After trying to open the generator door I realized I didn't have the ignition turned on. I sent Derek in to turn it on and the jacks immediately began retracting. [Moderator Edit]
The coach was on a slight incline and our jeep was about 4 feet in front of the coach. As soon as the jacks cleared the ground the coach started rolling forward. I was between the coach and the toad and thought briefly about trying to stop the coach. 40,000 lbs plus flashed through my mind. I jumped out of the way and tried to get in the door to apply the brakes. I yelled at Pam to hit the brakes. Derek, bless his 15 year old heart, pulled the parking brake knob stopping the coach immediately. This is a kid that has trouble in school and is easily distracted. Yet he came through like I couldn't believe.
Apparently one of the dogs had hit the parking brake and pushed it in when she tried to get to her favorite spot in front of the drivers seat. When Derek turned on the ignition the jacks automatically retracted and the coach started it's slow roll towards the toad. At least I believe that's what happened. Suffice it to say that I now have a clip on the parking brake to prevent this from happening in the future. Those of you with large pets are forewarned.

There have been others and a variety of stops for that button have been posted. Thankfully you can post this with a positive outcome.

Here's a device shared from another thread.
God was with you all, and we're very glad He was.

P.S.- only problem is, it's sold out at the moment.[emoji116]

I don't understand why it is wired so the key has to be on to open the generator door. There must be a reason but I don't know what it could be. Perhaps that could be rewired so you could service your generator without having the key on in the future.
Glad this ended well for you it could have been a real disaster.

Dan, would your dogs be two large German Shepards? If so your grandkids were doing a great job handling some very strong dogs and glad Derek was on top of it....we were at Bend getting a couple of items addressed as well. Congrats on the beautiful Cornerstone and diverted disaster.

Dan, thank for the warning. It doesn't even take large dogs, a clumsy owner can do the same thing changing a shade motor or cleaning the dash. I now use a chip bag clip on the brake release as well. Found one that fit perfect at a $ store.
Glad there was no damage to the new coach and all was well.

We have big clips used for closing off bags. I always keep one handy on the console tray and use it whenever refueling or parked. Not a big fan of the park brake location and would like to see it on the dash above where the Equalizer jack controls and headlight switches are. I made that suggestion years ago but it is still where it is and I consider that a safety hazard.

Thanks for the post. I had never even considered our dogs bumping it. One more thing to add to my list.

Trying to understand how the jacks came up and in what position did you turn the key in the ignition?
When I want the generator to slide out, into the open position, I turn the ignition key to the left. This does not trigger the jacks to come up nor does this turn on the dash lights or start the coach.
Am I missing something?

Yes, you may be missing that he sent a 15 year old in, to turn the key.
These things happen.

We've been using a spring clamp to hold the brake release out... Glad everything worked out OK. Be careful out there!
