Nevada Highway 93

We are considering going to Boise via Las Vegas in April. Thinking about using 93 north out of Vegas but the map shows some 10,000-11,000’ peaks close to the road in northern Nevada. Might be the wrong time of year to drive that high.

Can anyone with experience on 93 offer some advice?

93 N is an easy traveling 2 lane hwy all the way up. It doesn’t reach those elevations at all. There are mountain ranges in the area that do reach those elevations (I’ve hunted in those areas). I’ve traveled that route from Vegas to Boise with no problem.

I would also recommend that after you pass Ash Springs that you travel on N Bound 318 into Ely where you would then continue onto N Bound 93 to Idaho. It’s an easy traveling route.

Used it several times heading home
Just fine
Might get a little lonely as there’s not much traffic but we prefer that

Agree...this is a long road with little scenery except high desert; it is shorter than the US 95 alternative...longer in time than the I15 alternative, but avoids the traffic mess around SLC and St George.

You can dry camp at Jackpot. Recommend a full fuel tank when you enter the US93. There are a couple of towns (Ely, I think being the largest). On the other hand, take a couple days at Zion before you have to take the shuttle into the park. One entrance off I15 takes you to some spectacular scenery (recommend toad); the other into the main part of Zion is worth the trip.

Nevada Highway 93

Thanks for all the input. We think we will do that route later in the year, we’re kinda wimpy about driving in snow. Bryce Canyon and Zion are 2 of our targets in Utah. We will take a familiar route up; Amarillo-Albuquerque, Moab, Brigham City, Boise, we’ve driven that in snow. We may go the 93 route on the way back later in the month.

X2. I have gone on this route in a truck, in a truck pulling a 5er, on a motorcycle, in a Class A pulling a Jeep. Only once I hit snow and it was not a problem. I think it was in Sept. or Feb. can’t remember.

We traveled 93 in April last year and hit light snow in two different spots. It wasn't really a big problem, but the road had snow on the surface and slowed us down quite a bit out of an abundance of caution. A friend followed us a day later along the same route and hit what he described as "heavy snow." I think February/March might be questionable if you aren't equipped for snow and comfortable driving in it.

The comments made previously about 93 being lightly traveled and having few available services are quite correct. It is a long stretch of pretty much "nuthin."

I have used the 93/318 route many times going from ID to AZ. Good roads and not much traffic (or anything else). Passes are less than 7000 feet as I recall.

You will find snow, especially in the northern part of the state. Even as late as June. But for the most part, Nevada's roads are in the valleys between mountain ranges. You will find passes here and there that are pretty high but nowhere near 10-11,000 feet. Just keep an eye on the weather. In April, it might be spring or it might still be winter.
