New model generator plugs

While starting on the turn signal Mod (that post to follow soon) I noticed the generator plugs are still not weatherproof much like the Classics that had moisture intrusion that led to corrosion on some units. The plug is on the left side of generator looking at it, right in the center.

Photo one show bare wires where moisture can follow into the plug causing problems with starting, etc. later down the road.

I used rescue tape to seal the plug, it does not melt and get sticky like electrical tape. It only take a minute and saves many problem later on.

Chuck, I replaced that plug on mine about a year ago because the generator would not start using the inside switches. Now I have the same issue, it will not crank from the dash switch or the control panel switch. Guess I will have to replace it again and seal it better this time.

Michael, I was surprised to see that the plug still had not been sealed better since the Classics. It's still the same on the 19's.

Chuck, is it possible to use a Delphi 4 pin weather proof connector on this? Seems like a perfect use for these type of connectors?

Problem using the Delphi 4 pin weather proof connector is the plug is 5 wires.

Just taping it to keep moisture out worked fine on my Classic.

New model generator plugs

Ok... so I can’t count....5 pin connector[emoji1] Understand that taping works too.

Home depot carries environmental electrical tape about $4. Much easier than installing a environmental plug and it does the job.

And if your REALLY worried about the plug you can add some dielectric grease, to the pins, prior to wrapping the connector with the above tape.....

I believe that Chuck is saying that the problem is with the "wire" side of the connector being unsealed, not with the pins themselves. Water draining from above simply can pool right along with the wires as they enter the connector. Either heat shrink wrap, self amalgamating electrical tape (maybe called "44"? but has a clear label on the box), or good quality Scotch "22" electrical tape (The Best Kind, and worth every penny!!!) to wrap the entire connection. I dont use anything less quality than "Scotch 22" (its the industry standard)

I saw one person that had theirs sealed with Liquid Electrical Tape. Hey, it worked, the main thing is to seal it or be searching the forum "why my generator won't start."

Thanks for saving me from a rainy night under the coach looking for problems

If you're really worried, use Eternabond Tape. You'll never get it apart again.
Have partially finished taping the seams on our roof. That's some serious tape.

Don't need to get that serious, the generator might have to be worked on...that would be another hour labor to remove it. However, I don't leave home without Eternabond! If it leaks, I can fix it on the road.
