Old-school roof antenna for CB?

We have a ‘16 Aspire 42 DEQ. Is that old-school antenna on the roof for a CB? If so, where does the cable or wire end so we can hook up to it? TIA!

If you are asking on an Entegra, it's behind the kick panel at the drivers left side. However, do not expect it to work, mine didn't on two MH's. On the 19's they did away with them. Several post about the antennas not having a ground plane on a fiberglass bus.

It’s pouring rain, and I leave for my workamping desk job in a few...but it looks like an old-fashioned car radio antenna, and it’s up on the roof above the nagivator’s seat... it acts like a curb alarm when going under things not much higher than coach BTW LOL

What you’re looking at is the am/fm radio antenna.

If your DW wants a CB, get ready for a little work. I have tried to get one to work on 2 different fiberglass MH's and it just wasn't worth the effort. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/cb-a...on-286039.html
To many live road apps now that will give warnings 20 miles ahead when I couldn't get line of sight with a CB.

My opinion is FORGET about a CB on an Entegra coach.... CB antennas will simply work from poorly to very poorly on a fiberglass coach where the metal frame is close to 9 - 10 feet away from the mounting of the antenna. If you want a CB you probably need to modify the roof by providing a metal groundplane that the antenna can sit on top of, and then make a very good ground connection to the frame of the coach.

Or, alternatively, forget CB completely and get used to running an internet app on your phone called WAZE. Download for free. Set it up on your phone and you will get all the road condition information and maps that you need.

Now, if you want to engage in mindless chatter with others who sound like they dropped out of school in the second grade, then go ahead and connect up the CB.... I have found that one's IQ drops by 30 point every time someone turns on a CB radio. Sorry. JMHO

you can run a no ground plane antenna on your RV and Run a CB there is no mindless chatter etc, those days are long gone.

you will be the first to know whats happening as that's about the only time someone talks on it..

Search my name for my installation I did a little while back... installed the antenna on side of RV and ran coax etc... I get great SWR numbers...

Yes, there are what are advertised as "No GroundPlane Antennas" advertised for sale (usually helically wound 5/8 wave antennas). From a radiation standpoint, they are really inefficient and terrible performing antennas. However, if you only want to talk to someone a couple of miles in front of you or behind you, they will often do that.

And saying the "mindless chatter" days are gone on CB today must be true in a different part of the world than I live and travel in..... Although I rarely ever find myself in an vehicle equipped with CBs still (my son used to drive an 18 wheeler), it had not changed much when I last turned on the radio (he gave me his when he got out of the racket a few years ago and it is stored in the box up in the attic and will likely remain there until I donate it to Goodwill). in fact the last time I listened was worse than the mindless days.... more recently it was swearing, making racist comments, dirty jokes, and generally foul mouthed anonymous comments. No thanks!

Gary

Gary, i will politely offer a different opinion on performance, Mine throws great SWR numbers and for no more than a few mles to hear and talk, that suits me fine..
