Onan Air Filter

Embarrassed by the disgusting nearly plugged Air Filter.

500 hours on the clock.

WOW! Is that welcome to West Texas? That is nasty! I guess the humility that holds the dust down in FL is not bad after all.........yes it is. Good heads up Bob. Our generators run close to the ground and really take a beating with the dirt.

Definitely reminds me to check mine... [emoji106]

Not much dry camping at all except Wal Mart parking lots a time or three.

The manual says change every 500*2 *2 more frequent in dusty conditions. Since it is so easy to change, I think every 200 is probably better - that will be about yearly.

This has convinced me to do my engine Air Filter a little early (was going to wait until fall).
Just ordered ($140). The Cornerstone ISX filter does not look fun to change.

Wow. I am surprised to hear no dirt camping on that filter...
I used to camp a ton at motor cross tracks and never pulled one that dirty..
Definitely going to be checking mine.. don't blame you on the Cummins one also..

Got to love West Texas - Hopefully dust season is over.

That's a great suggestion Johnny. I have rarely run the generator when not on pavement.

I think the main culprit is the blower discharge towards the front of the generator. Every time I drive on a dirt road, campground or parking lot it stirs up a dust storm. We have a ton of caliche soil out here, the the fine particles resemble cement dust.

Bob, I have the DW shut the generator off if we have a dirt road to our camp site. If it's dirt at check in I leave the engine running and dash air cranked up. At least the engine intake is about 7 feet in the air.

RE ONAN & CUMMINS ISX filters --

When we went to Spartan in April, we had them do ALL the 2 yr items on maintenance list for Engine/Chassis, and ALL the 500 hr items on the Onan -- even though a) coach owned only 18 mo, and b) Gen has less than 250 hrs total since new at dealer. Why? Because DW insisted we have a "known" calendar date to work from here after (i.e., engine 'build date,' chassis 'build date,' and gen 'build date' are all some period of time PRIOR to "our purchse date." ).

We didn't see what any of the removed filters looked like, but feel better knowing we began travel season with all bases covered

Safe Travels To All

WOW! Thanks for this post Bob, I will be checking mine next week after seeing yours and Marks. I just changed the oil, 210 hours, never thought about the air filter.

We've spent the last 13 years at motocross tracks and fulltime training facilities and never had a filter that bad. I would think perhaps gravel roads or dusty driveways kicking up dust from coach wheels while gen is running.
