Phantom Generator auto start

10:52 pm, generator starts up - scared the stuffing out of me.

Generator autostart was not on. The Cummins EC30 was set to manual. Full 50 amps at the pedestal, batteries fully charged..... Ideas?

Bob, did you have the Command 30 updated? The original program did some weird things, but that is a new one.

In more mature coaches this problem has sometimes been traced back to air conditioner condensate dripping on the generator, and running inside the generator shorting a circuit board. Solutions have been to reroute the condensate to exit below the generator and sealing the top of said generator.

Now on your newer coach I don't know if that holds true or not.

Bob, IIRC you and I extended the A/C drain hose and weather sealed the plug for the remote start switches, didn't we?

We're talking about the dash are - correct? I have re-routed the hose, but it still clogs around once a year and has to be blown out. When it clogs, water does run down onto the generator. I have not sealed the genny plug but will. It has been pretty dry here.

No, I never updated my firmware. I have to send the unit in, correct? I have not done so because I use the auto-start feature maybe twice a year.

I would pull the plug apart to clean the contacts and seal them with dielectric grease. Corrosion can start in that plug and anytime and who knows when it will decide to act up. I taped it with weatherproof tape all the way to the ends as well.

Who knows what the first EC 30 program was capable of. It might cause the AGS to work when it was not suppose to just as it was causing the AGS not to work when it was suppose to.

Just some ideas to keep you awake while your waiting for the generator to start tonight.

Mine started this morning, I had the AGS on (just in case I lost power)....but it was plugged into 50 amps, and power was ok...is there a reason it started? battery voltage was ok when I shut it off...

My old Xantrex AGS system was much better than this Onan. I have to wonder whether the Magnum AGS implementation is easier to use and more effective than the Onan EC30, and why does Entegra use the Onan versus the Magnum AGS module.

We've had the same thing happen. Perfectly good power and the generator will start. Firefly had us re-install the firmware and we've not had it happen since, but I have to admit, I don't leave it in the building here with the AGS set. I did test it out for a day and could not repeat the problem as of yet but I can't say that it solved the problem either because it was so random when it did happen..! Sorry if my response is confusing...its a very confusing issue.

I doubt it would be the EC30 S/w upgrade, although you should get it done. When I talked to Grover at Cummins Eklhart at the start of that fiasco, the main thing the software upgrade was to force the generator to fire more than once before stopping and switching to manual. The issue was failure to start, particularly when the weather was cold and your cranking power wasn't tip top because the batteries were down to 50% or so. Beyond that, weird

I had a Phaeton without AGS and mine would start all the time. Finally figured it out one day when a cat come running out from under front cap. Guess they were sleeping near the button. [emoji848]

Jeff, again I had the same problem! With auto gen set to on....gen would start when a/c called. Problem was a bad communication cable from transfer switch to Vega Touch acknowledging power was present from the shore post. FireFly knew immediately what the fix was. Cable is about 10” long and plugs into a harness. Perhaps you have a similar issue.
