For the smoker we carry the Green Mountain Davey Crockett grill. I have a large Mak grill at home which is a real Cadillac but way to big to carry 8inthe coach. The Davey Crocket I can carry and can be easily carries and is stowed in a basement compartment of our cornerstone. The legs fold out to change from carrying handles to legs. I also have the Wi-Fi option. This lets me monitor the grill temperature from a smart phone or iPad via a free downloadable IOS or Android app. I change set and change the grill t4emperature, monitor the internal meat temperature probe and even load cooking profiles right from the app. I'm very impressed with the speed that it heats up and the consistent temperature it maintains. Plus I can check or add pellets without raising the cooking lid, although it's a real miser when it comes to pellet consumption. Hickory pellets are my favorite so far.
We have this same grill and love it. I carry it in the left front bay where the propane would be if I had it.

I also have the Traeger portable (300sqinches) and it fits in the small pull-out on the passenger side so it's not necessary to take out the freezer. I still cook steaks on the Weber Q but whole chickens, roasts or spareribs it's hard to beat the Traeger.

On another subject, even though Roadmaster or Blue Ox don't have a baseplate for the 2017 Lincoln MKZ yet, I had a local Welding shop fabricate a baseplate which turned out just as good if not better than the baseplate I had on my 2013 MKZ. I also went with the Air Force One braking system.

I'm thinking of getting the small Traeger, but curious as to how effective they are at high heat.
I'm partial to blackened salmon, etc. I've got a Weber Genesis that, grills fine for the most part, but can't truly blacken foods.
I think the Traeger solves a couple of desires for other things we might like to get into but....any comments welcome.
Thanks, Tom

Whole chicken cooked at 450 degrees always turns out fantastic and you don't even need to check on it til its done. Temperature stays between 440-450 for the whole cooking time.

Take a look at the RecTec mini. It's built better than a Traeger and has a more sophisticated PID control that holds 225 dead on for hours - very important for top quality ribs. 550 is not a problem.

Love my big green egg at my house. I have the large. I looked at the mini max for the RV but thought it was to small. I might look again. Awesome product.

Edit. I just looked at the minimax online. I think the one I was thinking of was the mini. This looks bigger.

Also consider the Kamado Joe Jr. We have a BGE at home and bought Junior for the road. The Jr. is a little taller (I think 5") than the MiniMax and the height difference is in the fire box. Jr. can hold more lump for longer cooks.

I have the green egg at home as well. Decided not to get the mini nor minimax because of their weight and cleaning the ashes when departing camp

I bought a Weber Smokey Joe Silver charcoal grill. As noted a couple of times above it is a very good charcoal grill and right size.

Wanted to get into smoking too and stumbled across the mini WSM conversion for the Smokey Joe. For about $25, it turns your Smokey Joe into a very nice smoker, and still allows you to use the grill as a grill. Two in one - gotta love that!

Just Google mini WSM conversion and you'll be able to read about it all day if you wish.

We've got the small Traeger Grill too, love it. You can purchase them with fold up legs, ours will fit in a storage bag easily, on our Bay Star. Many times I'll just put it in the back of the Cherokee for short hops. We found a pizza stone that'll fit the small Traeger, I think it was at Ross. It works great. We like Papa Murphy take a bake pizza's, I don't own a franchise or work for them. When I pick up the pizza I'll call my wife let her know I'm heading home. She'll fire up the Traeger with the pizza stone on it, it'll be up to temperature and ready to go when I get home. Taste great, everything on the Traeger taste great.

We have used the Holland Companion for a number of years. It is very well made, cooks great and is light weight. We purchased the Conversion Kit so we could use standard LP Bottles. We also have a bag to carry it in, but I don't recall if it came with the grill or if we purchased separately.

Don't think anyone has mentioned this one, but we like it and it takes up minimal storage space.

Char-Broil TRU-Infrared Portable Grill2Go Gas Grill

As I remember, about $125 on Amazon. We use small canisters of gas which are available cheap at WalMart and have a small aluminum table which it sits on. Does a nice job.

We decided to go with the Weber Q1000. What finally sold us was the griddle option. We love bacon but won't cook it in the coach.

I was shocked at how expensive the 4.5 pound bottle was, $59 on Amazon! Also what it cost to fill it; $9.50 at a nearby RV park. Hopefully the fill will last a long time. We also got a 16 oz. bottle for the time we run out of gas just before the steak is perfect. (Thanks for the heads up, Chuck. When I used propane at home I always had a full backup bottle. Now I use natural gas or my Big Green Egg.)

So, we're set to grill some meat, veggies and cook breakfast!

Thanks for all the input!

I have the weber q2200 and use the 16oz bottles from walmart (roughly $3.50 per bottle). I can cook several meals on a bottle. So I wonder if you might have a leak.
