Portable Water Softeners Storage for Travel

I have looked through some threads and can not find info on the storing and travel of my on the go water softener.
I am wondering if once we have been hooked up to our system and its time to move on, can we disconnect and close the system up and lay it down on its side for travel, or does it have to stand up right for any particular reason.

Thanks for any wisdom you may have on the matter.

It can be stored on its side. I just disconnect hoses tilt it to get small amour of water out both intake and outlet then put plugs on then store on it side for travel. Works so far.

That's exactly what we do with ours also. Drain a little water out of it and cap both ends. Then it can be stored upright or on it's side.

On the CS, it will stand upright in the front driver's side bay, which is where I stowed mine for the first trip since getting the On-the-Go.

When I bought my softener from www.rv-water-treatment.com I was told it is best to not lay the softener on its side when transporting. The strainer basket in the top of the softener can break if subjected to a good bump or jolt when laying on its side. I keep mine upright.

thanks BPeter, Cruiser and Dave. I was going to lay it in a large storage tube along with the hoses and other assorted equipment keeping the head propped up. Don't think I have time to attach it to the wall. It will fit standing up next to the dirt devil along the wall.
Darn thing has a very small leak on one of my fittings. I will have to pull it apart and fix latter.
water is nice now.

At the Dirt Devil, I installed a couple of eye screws and a bungie cord. It's worked for me for 10 years. Fits perfect and easy to get to. I put the pre-filter on quick disconnects for easy storage as the filter can lay flat.

It was also in my owners manual to store the softener in an upright position. I do pour part of the water off for easier handling and less mess in the MH.

As a PS, look how the finish was taken off my softener from some CG water supply. Imagine what that could do to the faucets of a MH if untreated. Maybe it's time to repaint my ONG, it's starting to show it's age.

Thanks Chuck. Looks like I will have to modify to a quick disconnect on the filter.

I am getting ready to order one of these. I want to ask why do you disconnect it for travel? Is there a reason to travel with it not hooked up?

I was planning to put mine in just after my dual filter that I installed to filter all the water going into the MH, including the holding tank. (mount it similar to Chuck's image) When I fill the fresh water tank, it is filtered, and will now have the benefit of the softener for water when we travel and dry camp. Can this softener be hooked up this way and left in place until it needs charged/cleaned?

Mine was hooked up permanently, no disconnects other than threaded stainless steel braided lines. I plan on mounting it in the narrow slide tray on the 2016 CS that used to hold that smaller freezer in the 2015s. That tray will also hold a pressure washer.

If you put a small ball valve on each side, just close it and your system is sealed, won't leak, etc.

Thanks Pat -that makes sense and seems the easiest to do.

The information on the we site says it will work for 1600 gallons, or 40 days. If the MH sits for several weeks stored between trips, should the unit be drained and re-changed with salt before heading out again? We had soft water at one of the parks we recently stayed at, and it was really a nice feature, and I really want to add it to our MH.
