Question on New Sticky for Troubleshooting

A good number of the posts pertain to troubleshooting. Why not have a sticky that members can upload files related to trouble shooting. They can be related to stairs, slides, Lube fittings, aqua hots, etc., or whatever. The title's could be marked or sub-marked Classic is they pertain to the older models. A repository of files that a user can download items rather than search through hundreds of posts. Keep it limited to download files without it becoming a discussion thread. There is a lot of good information out there that will be lost as owners upgrade or trade the coaches.

If you use the Search facility correctly, you never have to look through more than the first page of 10 or the second page of 10 to find what you are looking for. Chuck appears to be a master at searching (or spends a LOT of time doing it that he doesnt tell us about). I learned this from him.

Here is my procedure and it works VERY well. I use the search box right below the picture IRV2 banner and the box is labeled Search and powered by Google. I leave the default to be iRV2.com as the search domain. I you choose Google instead, the search is for the entire web. So leave it on iRV2. Then I always begin my search string with Entegra: That generally limits the search to this specific forum. Then add as much of the topic as you remember it (4 to 6 words if possible) and if you remember who started the thread or made lots of contributions to it, add their name (e.g. Brobox or Nowabeachbum) and hit search.... at the same time. You will find what you are looking for in the first or second page, almost guaranteed! Give that a try and see how it works. --

Gary,

I agree with what you are saying. For the members who use it properly it works. My observation was based upon the number of posts that are redundant. Maybe there is no need for such a feature, but since the filter sticky went up, it seems there are a lot less posts regarding which filter do I need. I did not actually count the posts. Nonetheless, from looking at the forum it seems like there are a lot less questions when the material is listed.

Here is an observation I have made over the years.....

It is easier (and therefore most often chosen) to type out a question than it is to search for the answer. There are an amazing number of times that you see two threads on exactly the same issue within the first 20 threads. A corrollary is that most people dont read a whole thread, and actually read only the most recent post or at best the last 3 or 4 posts.... have you noticed that the same comment and suggestion is posted again and again and again in a thread of 30 posts?

We have become intellectually very lazy in this world.... No one wants to spend more than the minimum amount of time to get the answer they need.

It also drives me crazy how many times an owner posts a questions, draws a bunch of answers (all potentially good) and then never takes 4 minutes to type out what the answer to the initial question was so the people that took their time to post suggestions know if their suggestions were helpful or a waste of time and the next person with the same situation doesn't know what actually resolved the problem !!! Maybe because they then think the question was a dumb one, or maybe just too busy to provide feedback.

Lazy.... lazy..... lazy The sticky probably doesn't help that it is at the beginning... people dont look at those either.

Gary

It is my understanding, that this forum has limited the size of the files, ie The Aquahot Manual is too large to place in the sticky. My work around is to use Ibooks on my phone to save troubleshooting procedures and manuals. This gives you a ready reference in your hand when you are performing maintenance.

Drifting slightly from Nathanís topic,I tend to use my iPad for convenience and use the app as my access point.
If you use the app, I found the best way to search topics is: using your search engine choice, enter iRV2/Entegra (then some combinations of words). Works fairly well.
I look at the Newmar forum a bit and have searched their stickies for solutions as well. I think there can be some value in having something similar but guessing it would be a large job to edit and maintain.
I had not thought about iBooks and will look into that too. Good idea. Thanks!
