Ran into a problem airing tires, finally bought another compressor.

With four compressors at the hanger, none would air my front tires up to the required 125 PSI. I tried using the onboard compressor with Corey's nice bleed air chuck but ran into a problem. The engine idled to long and went into a high idle exhaust regeneration cycle. I had to pull the MH out into the open due to the high heat that is generated when that happens and the risk of burning the paint off the hanger floor.

After spending an hour trying to air 2 tires, I took Bill in Fl advise and went to Harbor Freight and picked up this compressor. On sale with coupon for $99. It aired the 2 tires up in a couple of minutes after "learning how" to use a small compressor. Nice little compressor.

6 gal. 1.5 HP 150 PSI Professional Air Compressor

Exactly what I found some years ago before I bought a Coleman tank unit at Lowe's. At the time our rigs front tires needed 120 psi and the onboard air simply wouldn't do it.

Mine looks just like DeeGee's except the yellow parts are red and it's labeled "Porter Cable". Bought it refurbished at a good price from CPO Outlets and it's been fine for a couple of years so far.

I knew I'd have to carry it when I saw that the front's on my new rig would need 125-psi - just too difficult off the engine even with a bleeder rig. At the moment I've got it sitting in the middle of the "half-width thru bay" and I think I can plug it in and use there without removing, except for an occasional tank moisture blow down.

Chuck, by "learning how", I'm assuming you mean bleeding it down enough so it kicks on and re-pressurizes back to near max tank pressure then starting your tire fill before the motor shuts off?

The jest of the post was not so much the compressor, but idling the MH for a long period of time trying use the onboard compressor if you have a DEF system. It does not work well.

Lots of good compressors out there, just not the onboard compressor with a DEF system

One of the first things I bought for the RV. I went a year with a slow leak, I think I used it once a month until I got the valve stem seal inside the tire repaired.
I bought the one like Clifftal's. It really doesn't take up a lot of space and is probably easier to handle than 50ft of hose.

Me too. I have a 20 gal compressor, and this one beats it, hands down. Disappointed in the 20 gallon compressors, not enough CFM, and too slow.

I guess this post turned into a compressor post instead of a warning about idling a DEF system too long.

Can anyone beat the $99. price

Proof that a picture means more than a 1,000 words. I should have left the compressor photo out of the post. My mistake.

Ha! Well, you did say you spent an hour trying to air up two tires off the engine compressor, so the thread flowed kinda easily from there...

I got the drift of the post. It's like "when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor" line in Animal House....don't spoil it when it's on a roll.
