Recliners
We are about ready to pull the trigger to replace our sofa (44B) with 2 recliners. If anyone has done this and/or has or is currently thinking of doing something similar we would appreciate any comments you might like to share. It is our understanding that it is relatively easy to remove the sofa, and it is also our understanding that the wall and floor behind the sofa is finished. Can anyone confirm either of these points? BTW, we are thinking of installing 2 lazy boy wall hugger type recliners; not the real bulky type but a model that is more like a euro-recliner.
Thanks and regards,

The furniture in a MH is easy to remove. The walls and floor behind are finished, the furniture is one of the last things to go in so it is not cut or damaged during construction and it all fits through the door. Also people do make changes so all areas are finished. Entegra even lays tile under the cabinets. The couches I have removed are Lag bolted to the floor and the backs of the couch are bolted to the seat part. The hardest part is finding where the bolts are, but if you turn the couch upside down they should be visible. If not CS will knows where they are.
If you can, keep the sofa, the new buyer may want the original floor plan when you go to sell it. If not, MH furniture is easy to sell on Craigslist. Lots of buyers restoring older MH's.

We went with two LaZboy wall huggers. They are easy to get in the coach since the backs come off. Also since I'm 6'4", the better half is 5', we were able to get recliners that actually fit us, and they match. The only problem I have is staying awake when I kick back.

We removed the sofa in our current motor home and replaced with Ekornes Stressless loungers. They are not wall huggers, but do not take up a lot of space. They come in three different sizes in most of the models and we find them very comfortable. Additionally, they are not very heavy. What we have we will keep for the Entegra and put the Entegra Euroloungers in the trade-in.

Replaced our sofa with two Lazyboys and a custom built cabinet. Had to extend the sub floor about 6-8" to give room for the Lazyboys to sit. Used lag screws to mount. Also used the original seat belts which we tie up during travel to keep the chairs steady. When we ordered the chairs from Lazyboy, we had them put the recliner handles on opposite side so they are both in the middle. Or you could have them to the outside.

Pictures please. When you are finished, please provide us with some photos of the results. I would like to do the same with our 44B, but the bride isn't crazy about the idea. She likes sitting on the sofa with her feet up. Help. Do something great looking with yours.

Having had Lazy Boy Recliners (harbor town model) in our S&B, IMHO sitting in a recliner with the footrest up trumps sitting in the couch with your feet up. As soon as the project is done we will post pictures. Speaking of pictures, for those of you who have made the conversion, would it be possible for you to post pictures for us? I am pretty sure we are going to bite the bullet; the biggest concern is the resulting footprint, once installed. The wall hugger obviously has the smallest footprint, but we like the swivel/rocker features of the non-wall huggers, but what does that do to the living room space. Decisions, decisions, decisions.
As always, we appreciate the time folks have taken to respond to our question and our dilemma.

OWV, we are considering buying the same model chairs to replace our existing recliners. When do you think you will get them as I would love to see your photos before we order.

It depends in large part as to what model we decide on. If we do a wall hugger it might take 8-10 weeks since apparently most Lazy Boy showrooms don't stock the Harbor Town wall huggers in a leather finish. We can, however, apparently get swivel rockers in about a week since they are in the warehouse. The problem with the rocker is that they need to be farther away from the wall in order to fully recline. We will probably decide on Monday or Tuesday and should have pictures available by the middle of the following week. We will post.

Problem with the wall hugger is that it does not swivel. I measured the swivel rocker model and it didn't seem to need all that much room behind it.

We replaced the hide a bed and chair in our 5er with Lazy Boy reclining love seat and chair. Both are the zero clearance and do not swivel. Best thing we did in our opinion.
Don't believe the zero clearance. Requires about 6" to fully recline.

We removed two jack knife sofas replacing one with a tri-fold sleeper sofa and for me a recliner on the other side. This particular recliner was inexpensive and has vibratory massage & heat to some extent. It's comfy.

What an attractive setup. I also like the staging (good beer).
These changes make the term "camping out" redundant.

Marc,
Understand the dilemma between the wall hugger and the swivel rocker. When you measured, how much room do you estimate that the recliner needs to fully recline? That said, having had the swivel rocker in our S&Bs I can't remember how many times we fully reclined the chair, but it wasn't many so I wonder just how much room we really need. Once we get the sofa out we should be able to have a much better idea of what is going to work best. Hopefully that means the swivel rocker. We also have to decide on whether to bolt the chairs in place, but we probably won't do that right away so we can have the flexibility of adding a table or cabinet (see the picture that Dennis and Carol posted) at some point. In the meantime we like how Dennis and Carol seem to use the seat belts to hold their chairs in place when they are moving. What ever we do, we will update the thread and post pictures.
