Ripped off - Literally, Travlr Dish reflector

As the saying goes, it's windy in Texas!

DW and I are in the midst of our mid winter vacation. This year we went to Phoenix/Tucson. Three days ago I fought the south end of that lovely storm front across the US. Crosswinds were 20-20 mph along I-10. We heard a lot of wind buffeting but nothing we hadn't heard before. Two nights ago we camped in nowhere Texas and noticed our SAT reception occasionally broke up. It was too cold and windy to troubleshoot. The next night I put the SAT dish into the seek and find mode and went to dinner. Came back and the SAT unit had "timed out" and powered off.....strange. Next day we arrived in Tucson and I put the SAT unit on setup. I could hear it scanning and scanning, but no signal indicated. I walked outside and looked at my neighbor's Dish antenna to compare aiming to mine. That's when I saw this.......

My reflector is gone! I thought maybe I'd failed to tighten the 4 bolts holding the reflector, but no,around each bolt you can see where the metal tore a hole leaving the bolts.

Travlr owners beware: maybe my reflector was a fluke and made of poor metal. Maybe not. Put your dish up and inspect around each hole for cracking or metal fatigue.

And before the pundits pipe in, I did not hit something with it, and no the RV can't be moved with the dish up.

I hope somebody along I-10 doesn't have one of these dishes in their windshield.

Was it even made of metal? Thought they were all plastic these days?

At least you didn't lose the expensive part. The dish and lnbs are easy to come by. Check out Craigslist.

The dish has to be metal to bounce the signal into the LNBF assembly.

It was metal. Even plastic ones have a mesh inside.

Looks like you need one of these: Winegard RPSK35 Replacement Reflector For Slimline Dish (RPSK35) from Solid Signal reflector

Hopefully that's all you need. You've still got the bolts, right?

Take care,
Stu

If it is a DirecTV Trav'ler. A Dish Trav'ler has a different dish reflector.

Wow! We are in Kerrville, TX now and it has been windy for the past two days. I had to so some work on my Traveler back in October and know for sure the reflector is metal. Since the reflector when stowed is facing down to the roof and toward the back of the coach, I would think you must have had a defective dish.

Maybe they didn't. They are in the arm which is separate from the reflector.
