After reading about replacement windshield cost on this forum I decided to get full glass replacement coverage. We made it through the area coming into Boise last Summer, but were dinged by several chips on the beginning of Hwy 140 going West from Winnemucca, NV. I don't remember the exact replacement cost, but it was more than $1000.00. Our Safeco policy paid it all. I hope you are able to do as well.

If you use this on a crack, can you still have it professionally repaired later or dos this prevent them from fixing it.

I'd like to pass on this tip I was told by a windshield repair tech. Always carry a roll of transparent packing tape with you. When you get a chip, cut a square of tape and cover the chip at your first opportunity. It will keep the dirt and moisture out of the chip and make for a stronger more transparent repair.

I've had one windshield replaced and have had about four chips repaired on my new one.

I used a repair kit once and won't do it again...it didn't come out very good.

The repair people all said to get it repaired as soon as possible, like within a day or two. DoggieDaddy's suggestion of taping over the chip is excellent.

Our coach is insured in Kentucky which is a zero glass waiver state, which means they can't legally charge you a deductible for replacement glass unless you agree to it.That doesn't stop the insurance companies from asking you if you want to pay extra for zero deductible glass policy! Turns out that they can legally ask, and if you agree, they can legally charge you the extra premium . . . all for something that Kentucky state law gives you anyway for no additional charge!

I've been asked twice, by two different insurance companies if I want to pay the extra for "full glass coverage". When I ask them what that gives me over what State Law already requires they give me, I get put on hold, and the representative comes back in a minute and doesn't mention it again! Personally I don't think they even know which states are zero glass waiver states and which aren't, they are just going down the checklist of "extras" they are told to!

Over the last 10 years we've had both halves of our coach WS replaced, and probably 4 or 5 automobile windshields replaced. And our rates haven't gone up either . . .
