If you want to do the driving portion of the course you will need to call ahead and get a reservation. They are always booked and do not have that many spots available unless you purchase your MH from them. The classroom course is very good too. That part you will not need to have a reservation but it may be best to check on that as well.

Somebody mentioned "what works in your state is good in others" so your good to go. In NJ since your not for hire and have passengers you don't need anything other then a NJ DL. How scary is that?

Reading the CDL manual will help you understand the differences and give you exposure to systems that are unique to big rigs. Your local school district transportation department is likely to have materials that can help. After all, some school buses are very similar to Diesel Pushers at least the engines, transmission, air brakes and handling.
Good info, will pick up this information today.

Now here's the problem, I'm almost positive you will need that license BEFORE you pickup the 42' coach in FL. While the chances of you getting stopped on your way back to CA are pretty slim, you could find yourself in a lot of trouble if you were involved in an accident, whether it's your fault or not. You have already stated you have never driven anything like the coach you're purchasing, so I would be pretty concerned.

I would suggest that you contact the CA DMV. I am going to assume they're going to tell you that you will need the non-commercial Class B license. If that turns out to be true, I would then contact your insurance agent again and ask him if you would still be fully covered in the case of an accident if you were to take a chance and drive the coach back with just your Class C license.
Bob,
I am a Nevada Resident. I am currently in CA and would fly to Florida from here and return to NV. I checked with CA & NV DMV they are the same in requiring a Non Commercial Class B DL. You have to take the test with your MH that you will be driving. Will do this when I get back. I will check with my insurance company.

The reason for taking a RV driving course, to get a certificate and be more confident and safe driving home.

Thanks,
Steve

I am also a NV resident and have a non-commercial class B because my coach weighs >26,000#. My point is I do not believe you will be legal driving the coach without possessing the Class B license. NV will give you a learner's permit, but you will need a properly licensed driver with you at all times until you get your Class B license.
