Anything north of San Francisco will be fine on the 101. We did that same route two times last year. We did cross over to the I-5 just south of Seattle though as it seemed to be the better route. It is a great trip on the 101 with numerous places to stop and camp along the way. We took one of the trips during the height of the summer season and still had no problems finding available campsites.

Did it last summer. One of the most beautiful drives you will ever take. Like the previous poster said lots of camp grounds. Stop in Tillamook Or. for ice cream and/or cheese and while there see the air museum. I was more impressed with the hangars than the aircraft even though one of them had burned.
Places we stayed in OR.
Brookings
Gold Beach jet boat ride up the Rogue River.
Coos Bay
Florence
Neskowin Park is a passport America park
Tillamook We stayed at Netarts bay garden RV park which is about 6 mi. West of Tillamook on the water.
Crossed the Columbia River into WA.
Stayed at Westport WA at American sunset RV resort.
Then took hwy. 12 and 8 to Seattle.
It took us a month and a half and we certainly didn't see it all. Noel

101 is a cake walk...Highway 1 is where the fun is. Love that route. There are a few spots where 101 is recommend if over 35 feet and there is good signage advising to take 101.

There is an outstanding park on 101 called Winchester Bay RV Resort in Winchester Bay, OR. It is one of the best campgrounds I have ever stayed at, large, spacious and right on the water. It fills up in summer, so reservations are advised.

The only problem with your route is that most of the things you want to go look at require a left turn across the southbound traffic and the even more difficult turn across the traffic and into the northbound lanes afterwards.

If Seattle is your destination, rather than further north in WA, I'd suggest taking highway 30 from Astoria to Longview, and then up I-5 the rest of the way.

Anyone can go I-5 and see very little it is all about the ride. Go 101
