Sagging ceiling

So I had my new-to-me 2015 Aspire at NIRVC to fix an air leak. I asked them to also check the Winegard crank up antenna, it wouldn’t rotate when up. Figured the prior owners never used it so it had seized up.

Imagine my surprise when I was told that the problem was that the headliner was sagging and it was binding the antenna mechanism. Fix will be to remove and reinstall the ceiling headliner. I am expecting a quote tomorrow, but I’m not thinking this will be cheap.

When asked, NIRVC techs told me this is quite common on Entegras. So have any of you had this happen, how was the fix, and what can I expect?

So far, in the first 15 days of ownership, it has been in the shop or waiting to get in the shop for 15 days. Not easy on us full timers. Makes me wish I would have kept my old Monaco Camelot, it was getting tired but at least it rarely had to visit a shop....

Sagging ceiling

John,
Kathy and I have been on this Entegra blog pushing five years and have not seen a single post on a sagging ceiling. I’m sure others will chime in.

Could the roof have experienced a serious water intrusion causing the sagging ceiling?

Please keep us updated.

The roof was inspected, no problems. The ceiling showed no signs of water damage. The prior owner did not report any issue like this.

However, they were Florida owners and the coach sat unused since last August. Who knows what the high Florida humidity and hear could do. But all the other panels are firm and tight.

We are on our 4th coach in FL, and the 2nd Entegra. Our first Entegra lived in a very hot, and still humid, section of TX. We have never experienced a sagging ceiling and our coaches sat unused for long periods of time before we retired. We've never heard of this problem with an Entegra. Although we've heard nothing but good reports about NIRVC's service, I still think I'd give the factory a call on this one. Did you get any indication of what is causing the "common problem" of sagging ceilings?

X2 what Linda said. The 14 and 15 Entegras had bad roof sealant used on the roof seams. Mine deteriorated in the first 8 months. I would really do a very close inspection on the roof seams. Lot or reports of Classic roofs leaking, but I have never heard of a sagging ceiling problem without a roof leak.

sagging ceiling

I had similar problem on my 17 Cornerstone. Entegra placed two screws (while in Middlebury for repairs) in the ceiling vent to snug up the ceiling. That did the trick but now magnet cover keeps falling. I placed a spacer in vent to cause magnet to reach other magnet. Works fine now.

We’ve survived one week of serious Texas rains (check the news about flooding) and no signs of ceiling leakage. Won’t hurt to go up on the roof and check all the seams. I did that on my Travel Supreme a decade ago.

I’ll call Entegra later today and see if I can get any feedback. Good idea. Maybe they could also tell me how long a screw to use....

Putting a screw with a large washer in the return vents seems like a good idea. I have 4 return vents right in the middle of the “sag” so if I can figure out how long a screw I can see that working.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Here is the factory drawing of a 2015 Aspire 44U Maybe this will help you. It was sent to me when I was looking for a way to drop a cable through the roof.

Yes. One of the lines leading into the brake valve junction had developed a leak. It was replaced and I now have good pressure and no more rapid air loss.

Complements to NIRVC. After the diagnosis, I decided to take a closer look myself and quite frankly couldn’t quite agree. Yes, the ceiling did sag a bit, but I couldn’t see it interfering with the antenna mechanism. So I decided that after the rain I would go on the roof and take a closer look myself.

This afternoon my service advisor called to tell me he discussed the diagnosis with the tech and shop supervisor, and decided the diagnosis was wrong. They will credit any charges and offered to make good on the repair.

So I have to hand it to them. I didn’t pressure them, they voluntarily called to apologize and make right. That is a class operation.

So I can quite worrying about any sag except on my aging body.

While reading this thread I was trying to figure out how the headliner sagging would interfere with the hand crank antenna. That would have to be some major sagging, and quite obvious. The antenna was probably just in a bind, and a few gentle lifts on it while on the roof would probably free it....Hopefully the cable or the satellite cable was not preventing it from raising.
