Select Comfort setting

Don't know anyone other than on this forum that has a Select Comfort or whatever our beds are. DW started at 95, went to 65 and today went to 90. I started at 75, went to 55 and today, after a week of shoulder aches, went to 85.

What setting do you find most comfortable?

Well, I've had several "Sleep Number" beds in the stick house and then in the coach when we bought it. I tried all settings on all of the beds and could never adapt to that air mattress.

Replaced it in the coach with a Beauty Rest Pillow Top and never looked back. Many people love the adjustables but I just couldn't handle them.

DW and I are both 95 in the S&B and the TS. We prefer firm beds.

We have a Sleep Number at home. In the MH we simply bought a standard inter springs mattress.

I actually sleep better in the MH than on that over priced and way over rated Sleep Number. I'll never buy another Sleep Number.

When you set the Sleep Number on the lower pressure settings, it is too soft and don't provide an even support. It is like sleeping on an old mattress that sages in the middle. At the higher pressure, it is too bulged in the middle. The troughs that each air fits in leaves a lump in the middle of the bed and on the sides. Getting out of bet in the morning feels like you have to get out of a shallow coffin.

I tried the Temperpedic bed, and really found that just as much a bunch of over rated hype as well.

I will simply stick with a good inter spring mattress. It provides the best overall support and never sags or lumpy or needs adjusting. I think it is a much better value for the dollar spent.

Just my two cents.

My DW like about 80, I like 95 but we put a 3 inch Walmart Cool Gel type topper on top. It is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Since our mattress is an RV King size I had to trim the mattress topper 3 inches (I think). There are numerous posts on how to do it. I marked it with a Sharpie and straight edge then trimmed it with an electric carving knife. It was easy. The combo mattress is superb.

For 31 years we slept in a full wave water bed. Been sleeping on a Sleep Number bed for 7 years now, My number is 60, and my wife's is 40.

What I find interesting is how much the numbers change while traveling. DW likes 55 I'm a 45. This summer we went "up" to Colorado, jumped into bed and found it was like concrete. Checked and both sides were at 100. We've gone "down" to Houston and found it down to 20. Obviously the low pressure won't do any harm but has anyone ever had damage caused by high pressure do to higher elevations?

There is a distinct warning in the operator's manual warning of same...and it doesn't take much. We had the same occurrence, maxing out the mattress. Now if we are traveling West or in the Great Smokies we deflate.

Ours has a range of 0-50. I use 22 & DW uses 29-40 she is always adjusting hers.
At the S&B we have a pillow tops stardard mattress & it is time to get rid of it. But since we are going fulltime once we sell the S&B we just live with it. We had a memory foam mattress in the previous MH and we liked it better than any of these matresses.

That is a great reminder for everyone. I tend to forget. It's a rude reminder when you jump in bed, not to mention I'm sure you could probably damage the bed.

My # is 45, DW 40. Our favorite bed of all time is full wave waterbed, the cheapest one you can buy.

In earlier discussions about altitude we found Sleep Number people said the bed won't be damaged as there is a safety valve. Whatever, we have been from sea level to the highest passes in the US and never adjusted the bed until we went to bed at night. It still works fine after 10 years and 85k miles.

You dodged a bullet. These mattresses can pop like a balloon if you do not deflate before going up in elevation. We are careful to do this any time we are going into higher terrain.
