You have a tank flush system built into the black tank to help clean out old toilet paper and solid fecal matter, and when you open the two valves and let the contents mix, you are moving some of that stuff into the gray water tank where there is no flush system?!? Doesn't make any sense to me. I want to keep toilet paper and fecal solids in one tank only (the black tank) which can be cleaned with the tank flush system, and the last thing I would want to do is junk up my gray tank with fecal matter and toilet paper.

You're right about mixing, but there is a reason some do it. BUT first you drain and rinse the black tank. I do it at least three times to be sure clear water is coming out. Then with the black tank empty I open both valves. I watch the black sensor and when it gets to about 11%, close it. The full gray tank pushes water into the empty back tank and generally that water has soap in it. It should make the sloshing action more effective as you go down the road.
Got this tip from Pat Bauer I think. If one is concerned about excess water use you can just drain the black tank, but I prefer to get it clean before I put the gray water in it.
